There have been so many superb photos of spring flora and fauna sent into the Springwatch Flickr group that Chris and I thought it was high time that we picked out some favourites.

So below, in no particular order, are our favourites (there were dozens of superb ones and we found it really hard to whittle them down into just five. Mouse over the photos to see who took them):

Pentax K100D.Auto Mode,ISO 400,70-210mm Lens.Chaffinch Duel In The Sun.

Golden Plover at sunrise.

These pics are awesome. I had wanted to send videos of the action in my garden but unfortunately I'm having trouble with my camera software. We have been inundated with birds this year. Nothing out of the ordinary just your usual sparrows, blue tits, great tits, starlings, blackies, long tail tits and a couple of thrush's. A pair of ring necked doves and the usual scavengers, wood pigeons. Watching the adults feed their young, even though the young are able to feed themselves from the bird table they still flutter their wings with mouths agape waiting for mum to do it. The young blue tits just love the fat balls and usually are fighting for a place on the feeders. At one point there were six tits on one feeder, ran for my camera, but too late as usual. We've had so many birds this year it has been impossible to count them. I even managed to take a photo of a lesser spotted woodpecker but it didn't come out very good. Ah well, I did at least see it.

I came accross a strange sight under a piece of tin in the garden, a grass snake wrapped up in a bundle with 5 slow worms! I have never heard of this before, is it common? I have posted a couple of pictures on the Flickr group.

I have an adult squirrel that regularly visits our bird feeder which has lost its tail, can anyone explain why this has happened. It seems to be doing quite well without it however!
