Simon Mayo Simon Mayo Presenter

Think I'll go with a dress-down Friday theme today; jeans, t-shirt and an air of slovenliness. This of course is how I approach most days and am grateful every morning that I don't need to be suited and booted on a regular basis. The glories of radio. Had to be a bit smarter at 5 LIve in case someone important turned up but only slightly. An ironed t-shirt being the absolute minimum needed which seems fair enough. It is unlikely that anyone important will turn up today however. The 2 show Friday starts at 12 today due to the Ryder Cup taking over on 5L and we only get an hour to squeeze everything in. My guess is I'll get to say at least a sentence or two.
Plus, casual attire fine today because there are no school visits scheduled. I struggle a bit on these trips to know what to wear. Staff obviously need to be smart pour encourager les autres and they don't need some DJ scruff to come and give the wrong impression. So a jacket on top seems a good compromise. Yesterday, in the deepest parts of wooded Surrey, all went well and I was wearing a sweater! So we might have had a few new Year 10 listeners yesterday (14/15 year olds as I knew really, just forgot. Ahem). Hope they enjoyed the Frank Sinatra!
And so eventually to R2 and the ARF for a selection of weekend treats. Claim that crown back right now.
Have a casual, insouciant Friday. See you after 12 and 5.

Apropos of today's blog title, apparently your ears never stop growing...

    ;o)

#17 Is he drinking, Gill? And does he appear otherwise well? It sounds like he may have eaten something that's disagreed with him. As long as he's taking in water you could probably leave it a bit longer, to give whatever it is the chance to work its way through his system, rather than forking out the arm and the leg the vet will no doubt charge you for his services... But if he's not drinking (or drinking excessively) then take him off down the V. E. T. Hope he's better soon.

#19 #21 #23 Of course, Smee may well know better than me... I don't even have a cat, just using common sense. In which case feel free to ignore my advice...

#17. If he's anything like Jasper, the ginger King of Sheffield, he will have eaten in the last 24 hours. Just not at your place. Our neighbours often see Jas scoffing from Tiddles or Tabitha's bowls. And, if the weather turns whilst he's out patrolling hither and yon, he is quite happy to take the generous offers of shelter that in his mind, people seem to have offered. Mrs Slavins wardrobe is a favourite spot, seemingly.

Thanks for the advice Smee & Deebee.
He usually wolfes down his food and then tries to steel the other cat's, but this morning was the 3rd meal in a row he's turned his nose up at. Nibbled a little at some biscuits this morn, but didnt clean them up as usual. Seems very down in the dumps :-(
    Poor lad.

    Morning everyone

Sunny but very windy here and the farmer is busy ploughing over in the field. My dogs won't be happy with those huge clods of soil instead of a nice stubbly field to run around in!

Let's hope a blogpoppet becomes ARFO King or Queen at 5:05pm.

Gill - I hope there's nothing too serious wrong with your mogpoppet.
PoS - Jasper sounds like quite a cad :)

Feet - especially in girls are getting bigger and it's now entirely normal for teenage girls to have size 7 or 8 feet. When I was living-in at a boarding school I came back one day to see a pair or large trainers in the front hall and went on a rampage to find out who'd brought a boy into the house ...... (strictly not allowed without a member of staff in the hour), only for a poor, chastened girl to come down the stairs and sheepishly admit the trainers were in fact hers! I then couldn't help but explain "good lord, but they're huge!" I felt terrible!

    Morning all

Quick poop in as busy again!

    Can I suggest

THE JAM - A TOWN CALLED MALICE

    OR

HEROES & VILLAINS -THE BEACH BOYS

    for ARFO.

Not in good books today, as despite ensuring the daughter had done her spellings for the test today and her reading, daddy forgot to do her any lunch!

My excuse is that last year she had school dinners on Friday, as it was pizza day, but that's now on Wed instead so clearly running on auto-pilot this morning!

    Morning all

John Hiatt's facebook page posted a link to the Beeb rady for his sesson on BH Country last night. One presumably American fan who musth ave caught the tail end of Drive thought a cookery show on the radio was an odd concept CRAZY ENGLISH was his verdict :-).

But I guess the overall mix of stuff on any UK daytime show would be a completely strange concept to the Americans given that they tend to have whole readio stations that pump out the same sort of stuff 24/7/365.

Hope your mogpoppet is okay, Gill. If only pets could tell us what was wrong...

My daughter takes size 8 shoes. She's quite tall too, so finds it difficult to get fashionable shoes that don't make her tower above everybody else. I on the other hand am a petite 5ft 4, with a shoe size 4 1/2 or 5.

#34 Yes I suppose on the face of it cookery on the radio must seem a bit strange. But then so does sport on the radio, and that seems to work. And don't you mean 24/7/52...?

    ;o)

    Back again!
Vet says she thinks he's eaten something thats disagreed with him. An injection has been dispensed and a follow-up appointment made for tomorrow morning which incidently is stacking up to be a busy one as we are also visiting the local High School open day. Oh the joys of parenthood.
Gee whizz im hungrey. Anyone got any edibles going spare?

Gill - I hope your moggie is ok. Animals are a worry when they are sick/under par.

Paul - Jasper sounds like a true moggie; the world being there for his benefit and he takes advantage of it whenever he can.

Sadly, our two moggies have long gone to the great moggery in the sky but they were great company - when they deigned to bless us with their company!

    Hi Simon and everyone

    Where's my post?

I think I am have previewed but not posted! Doh! blond moment!

just saying what a corker last nights show appeared to be much to my annoyance as I only caught last 5 minutes due to being stuck at work as it is my last day today. Speaking of which after collecting some clients books first thing and generally chatting to them they asked me for my details when they knew I was contractless from Monday (yippee 1st private client!)

When I got back to the office I was greeted with chocs, flowers and fruit ( do they think I am leaving due to illness or something!!) I am touched though! Not keen on choc or flowers as they look like dandelions!

    And now for an ARFO:

    RADAR LOVE - Golden Earring.

    Back laters

    Mandy ;)
