Simon Mayo Simon Mayo Presenter

It is probably possible to work out the contents of my kitchen from the blog titles of recent days. No advertising obvs but you're an astute bunch and can work these things out. Poirot could have deduced my entire shopping trolley I suspect.

So here's the link to the podcasts we've been talking about this week (Look at the bottom of the page). It's a bit buried in the page so thought I'd be helpful. I'm not a great one for heroes but for sheer bravery, the story of the Penlee lifeboat crew under the coxswain William Trevelyan Richards as they tried to rescue the Union Star in 1981 takes some beating. Historian Neil Oliver knows the story well and tells it very powerfully. Listen and be moved/inspired/amazed. The first interview is with Larry King, American broadcast legend. That's got to worth 99 of your hard earned pennies. 19 shillings and 10 pence is all we ask.

Foodie Thursday stars Nigel's Red Wine Velvet Cake with Whipped Marscarpone delivered to your radio after 6 and how about PINK oldies please? This is because a diamond known as the Pink Star has sold for $83m (£52m) at auction in Geneva - a record price for a gemstone. The diamond measures 2.69cm by 2.06cm (1.06 inches by 0.81 inches) and is set on a ring. It has been renamed the Pink Dream and so pink oldies it shall be.

Have an intriguing and rewarding Thursday, see you after 5.
