In a Hole

Simon Mayo Simon Mayo Presenter

Today a blog typed into a phone while on the 8.45 to Guildford. I'm off on a research trip and enjoying the full pleasures that commuting has to offer. Around me a large lady in a shell suit is asleep, a foreign visitor is nibbling a sandwich and a student is playing a game on his phone. The coffee is superheated beyond the possibility of human consumption and we are ready to go. My pencil and notepad are with me and I shall pretend to be back at Uni for a few hours...

John Lloyd went down a storm it seems to me and his endless, enthusiastic enquiry into life, the universe and everything was as thrilling as ever. He is right I think about how we lose the sense of wonder and enquiry that children have-he however has it in spades so makes up for the rest of us.

Today we welcome Stephen Mangan, star of Episodes, Dirk Gently and Green Wing (and occasional Have I Got News For You host). Most importantly, he is the voice of Postman Pat in the new movie and he has lustrous hair.

And oldies please on life UNDERGROUND. The Royal Mail is releasing a stamp issue to mark the first journey on the London Underground 150 years ago but anything BELOW GROUND is good (the Southlanders, come on down/come on up).

Have a perky and intriguing Wednesday, see you after 5.
