Well that's that. And welcome to the rest of 2012. Not sure the closing ceremony was precisely what I would have ordered but it was a party. And it went on for so long, in the end I was quite happy for it to stop. So it worked! Liked the Spice Girls, Ray Davies, Muse, Eric Idle, Queen and Elbow (even though the tv commentators talked incessantly over 'One Day like This'. Until, I suspect, the producer told them to shut up). But I hope Lord Coe allowed himself a small creme de menthe last night. My 3 worder would be 'surprised by pride'. Took child 3 around the City Hall/Tower Bridge area at the weekend-where we did the show from in Olympic week one- and surprised myself by the glowing terms in which I was talking about my home town. I hope the memories last a long time.
And the Olympics beats all other competitions because (amongst many reasons) the stadiums and public transport fill with families and women. Coming back from the show on friday, the train filled up with Hungarians, Irish, Germans and Aussies. There was no tension, no beery, oppressive behaviour, no looking-the-other-way from the other travellers, just smiling, tired faces. Nice one Seb, Britain did indeed get it right.
And all of us not on holiday (Matt and Rebecca long gone) need to hold hands and support each other and a top Drivetime comes your way at 5 (trust me on this). Simon Callow is in after 6 to talk about his play The Mystery of Charles Dickens and we'll do CLEARING AND SWEEPING UP oldies please. It's your small contribution to the national effort.
Have a cheery and tip-top Monday, see you after 5

    Good Morning All

#124 LOL Gazza! No, dinghy sailing is not for me - too wet. I did however see a silver medal up close... it belonged to Nick Dempsey who achieved it in windsurfing. We saw him in the Royal Weymouth yacht club the night he won it, and he was waving it around and having his photo taken. Mr B wanted me to have a photo with him, but I declined as most of the other girls were about half my age...

#125 Amelia and Shona, I'm sure you'll have a great time on Saturday. My experiences of meeting bloggers have always been positive, and I'm sure you'll be chatting away like you've known each other forever. I would love to come with you (and the lovely Shona did offer me her spare ticket) but Edinburgh is a bit far for me for a day out, even to see our esteemed leader.

I'm expecting another busy day at work, so may not have much time for blogging. Will try to poop by when I can.

    ~X~

Gazza - Simon made some comment at the time that PTP was leaving the BBC but would be back on different contractual terms, or some such phrase.

Congratulations to Shona on medal guessing. I'm very much looking forward to meeting her on Saturday (and seeing our glorious leader obviously) It normally takes people a while to make jokes about my height but she was straight in there, I like that (from previous blog)

    Good evening,

    Congrats to golden Shona.

Jennie, Would love a bit of banoffee please. Glad you and Mr Wren liked my hunt the husband story from the last blog.

Welcome back lovely Deebee. Actually Big Girl and I found ourselves outside Horseguards Parade between 4 and 5 on Tuesday. I did keep an eye out for our Esteemed Leader but to no avail.

#51 My thoughts exactly Sal ;-)

Jeffrey, Looking forward to "seeing" you.

What can I say about last night. Well, it made me chuckle. Did anyone see Russell Brand on Newsnight last week? Another one of those "oh my giddy aunt" moments.

So, anyway, I am likely to be a bit busy tomorrow, but a mensh chase always quickens the blood, so I'll go for it tonight, and hope a lovely blogger will C & P for me. Of course, I have no idea of the theme, so I will just have to have a guess, a strategy that has been singularly unsuccessful in the past, but, well, hey-ho!

'It's Not Right, but It's OK' by Whitney Houston

'If You're Feeling Sinister' by Belle and Sebastian

'Break On Through (To The Other Side)' by The Doors

'Out Of Left Field' by Percy Sledge

That'll do. I might get back tomorrow, you never know.

Pants! Didn't get to play today due to workie things and missed most of the show due to visitors and then having to go out for a spot of dinner with colleagues.

Hoping for more of a chat tomorrow. Early bath and bed tonight after such a late 'Lympic night last night.

    Will read back in morn.

    Nightie night.
