And Friday dawns cloudy and unpromising. Builders swarm, children depart and parents shamble. Feels like another duvet day again (this is becoming a trend). But it is impossible to have one when you have roofers, tilers and plasterers outside, aware of every movement. I actually dress up a little because they're here to be honest, and appear to be busy and serious. While providing top quality biscuits of course.

The other reason for busyness is work of course and the small matter of the movie show on 5Live and the mighty ARF for 2. Ben Affleck is our guest and Argo is his film. It's a fantastic film which is both a tense 70s adventure and Hollywood satire. If it wasn't a true story, it would be dismissed out of hand but its tale of 6 American Embassy workers in Tehran who escape when their building is occupied, prompting the CIA to try to rescue them under the guise of a mock sci-fi movie, is all fact. And that sentence was way too long, apologies.

Then to R2 central and let's kick off the ARF with a song (chooses year from ARF hat) 1978. No idea if that is any better than last week but over to you pop pickers.
Have a decisive and clear-thinking Friday. See you after 5.
.
Oh, I'm not here on Monday as I'm in Cornwall doing that other thing I do. But only briefly.

    Good morning all,

So pleased to hear that your cat seems to be recovering, Billie.

#110 & #114 Sal and Gill, I love the vegetables at this time of year. My absolute favourites have always been brussel sprouts although I'm not a big fan of cabbage!
I did a similar trick, Gill, with my ragu sauce when the children were small. Great way of disguising mushrooms, although my children ate all other vegetables.

Watched the Andrew Marr 'History Of The World', last night. Is it me, or does he remind anyone else of 'Plug' from 'The Bash Street Kids' in The Beano?

I am actually looking forward to listening to Liza this evening. I quite enjoy her Saturday evening show.

Right better get on, places to go and people to see,

    mc x

    Monring all

Just been catching up - Billie, so glad your mogpoppet is improving; it's horrible when they're ill.

We went to see Skyfall yesterday - loved it!! Won't give anything away, but I thought Javier Bardem as the baddie was great.

    Work to do!

    Back later

Good morning one and all - it's a bit grey here at the moment, with rain forecast for later.

Where will the blog take us today, I wonder?

    Morning all

Hope that that good weekends were had by all, bloggers and lurkers alike. Mine was a bit "meh", truth be known, but you can't have it all ways.

Whatever shall we do today? We might have to have a proper conversation!

Shona, if you're still up and about, I hope you also enjoyed seeing Christy Moore and Declan Sinnott.

I forgot to mentionin my last message that after almost every song, a guy took Christy's guitar through the back and he was kept busy all night going backwards and forwards, presumably making sure each of his (several) guitars were tuned absolutely perfectly.

Billie, I haven't been on here since Friday and I'm sorry your cat has not been well and I hope all will be well after the antibiotics have kicked in.

#111 Amelia, Christy Moore was his usual fab, charismatic self at the packed Festival Theatre, which he makes feel that he's in your front room. As always, he was accompanied by Declan Sinnott and as soon as they set foot on stage the audience cheered like mad as Christy is always popular in Scotland.

He enjoyed a good bit of banter with some of the audience and sang several songs that people called out for, which he always is happy to do and when I saw him at the smaller Queen's Hall last year, I spoke to him afterwards in the bar and he told me he doesn't have a set list so every show is different and he said he plays according to the mood of himself or what the audience want to hear.

I love the humour of some of his songs and he sang a good mix of his popular old songs like Smoke and Strong Whiskey, On Morecambe Bay, Quinta Brigada etc and a few new ones from his most recent album and I was pleased when a woman called out for 'Ride On', my favourite of his, a few songs into the show and he said "I was going to sing it later, but I'll do it for you now" and the audience joined in. It's usually only Janice Long who plays his songs as she's a fan and I was surprised to hear Steve Wright play 'Ride On' this morning, a first for him!

The 2hr 15mins (no break) was over far too soon but I know that everyone left the theatre feeling happy! Roll on the next time! :o))

Hello all bloggers again and of course your Lordship. I have crawled out from the stone under which I have been lurking in order to report craven behaviour in face of celebrity. I spotted our dear leader emerging from Exeter Central railway station yesterday afternoon and was too timid to say hello. I was in abject fear of opening my mouth and finding idiocy issuing forth, although my friends would wonder why I was worried as it doesn't usually bother me!

Having completed my shopping I was driving through town and spotted him again - trying to find if Exeter had anything interesting to offer I should think. (It does, but not necessarily at 5 pm on a Saturday evening!) Shortly afterwards I stopped again and vowed to approach Simon if I saw him once more. Sadly that did not happen. Rats!

Your Lordship, I hope you are enjoying your Westcountry weekend and I wish you a safe journey home. (NB Blog title "devoid of hats" from a while back had me hepless with mirth. Long time Flanders and Swann fan.)

Wishing His Lordship, all bloggers and blogpoppets good health and happiness.

    Evening all,
Hubbs and I just watched an old Father Ted from the year we got married. Had forgotten how much we used to enjoy them. Still just as good 14 years on (both Farther Ted and our marriage) :-)
Having a glass of fermented grape juice before bed.
