If there is silence at any stage in tonights show then it may well be that I have fallen asleep. It is unlikely frankly due to the adrenalin rush of top hits and chat with excited folk but the news is a dangerous time. And travel. Anytime that doesn't involve me talking, I'll be gone. 2 bad nights equals trouble ahead. Wouldn't get away with Telegraph Road tonight!

First hurdle is Thor 2 this morning. It'll be rude but when the lights go down in the screening room, my eyes will close and Asgard can crash all it likes, it won't trouble me. My chat with Tom Hiddleston who plays Loki will be fun. Then the movie show on 5L with Dame Judi Dench talking about the wonderful Philomena. Interviewing Dame Judi is like interviewing royalty-she graces your show with her presence and is a delight always. T

Then it's our ARF and we need to focus on 1969 for our opener. Harold Wilson, Spacehoppers, Concorde, QE2, Tommy and Pot Black. And your host is at St John's Primary in Croydon where he is a gold star reader. My finest achievement so far.

Have a lively and dazzling Friday, see you after 5.

    Morning!

Monday already? It feels like I blinked and the weekend came and went far too quickly. It was good to have my dear daughter to stay. Sometimes I look a her and cannot believe I had any part in making such a well adjusted and beautiful girl - proud Dad moments, getting to be a soppy old fellow these days.

I think I missed something. Katy/Amelia - MCT? Am I just being particularly slow this miserable Monday morning?

Shona can you send some of that fine Scottish weather down South please?

Good Morning Everyone! I do believe we have some blue sky (with a k) this morning and it is very mild too.

I have to say I'm impressed with all the late night, early morning postings. Wishing now I had joined you when I was awake at 3 am, 4 am , 5am , 6am alarm!

    Morning all

Hamlin I'm very partial to Lagvulin - "all the fire taken out and all the warmth left in".

Katy that was an early start. Nice to meet a fellow fokie. I'm intrigued though - where did you finish up working?

Amelia - glad smelly returned unharmed. I lost mine in the park a couple of months ago and the panicky feelings of that hour before I found her patiently sitting by the ice-cream van waiting for dropsies were quite horrible. Hope your evening got better.

Off to work now, might see you over the page...

Adding to my Neil Young post #303 ... thanks Jilly and Billie for endorsements of others' suggestions - and Canute ... yes, they are all fairly confident 'jammers' so should be able to tackle most songs.

    :^)

Shona - keep 'em coming gal - you make me smile too :^D

You mentioned my sophisticated listening in 1969 .. don't forget I'm a little older than most of you lot, Billie excepted.
My boyfriend, who was a couple of years older, was in the local grammar 6th Form Band - guitar and vocals. They played covers of American country rock, the likes of Byrds, Buffalo Springfield - plus what-I-call 'proper R&B' and Soul classics.
Having an older brother helped influence my tastes. Simon often mentions his sister's 'music', Eagles etc. My older brother and his friends constantly enthused over Floyd, Zep, King Crimson and the like.
One might say I was exposed to some of the finest rock music ever to come from this planet ... as it was being made.
My own influenced by no-one else preference was quite bluesey: The Doors, Cream, John Mayall, Fleetwood Mac etc.
I was also a pop music fan and an avid Chart Lister. And would listen to the same tracks over and over again to get the lyrics written down. Desmond Dekker's Israelites was quite the challenge.
This was all before I became a Folkie!

Hardly surprising I ended up working where I did.

Billie - the phoenix arm - jaw-dropping! I have friends who wear those bracelets - must ask them what the benefits are ..

Hamlin - glad your boy landed safe and sound. You must be proud of what he's doing. And thanks - my girl is fine now. In Guatemala learning Spanish - at the same time as teaching English to some Koreans.

Hoffs - Kevin story and Bubblehead boy in bubble bath - you couldn't make it up! Have you started your new job yet, m'lovely?

ARFO - bit of a blooper on my part - was in such a rush on Friday, consulted usual listing [UK and US top 200 songs in the year whatever] saw CCR, thought Proud Mary was the one that'd been ARF-ed to billio - so chose the 'other' one.
For the record - CCR Collectivists - My favourite is Up Around The Bend.

A whole hour and a half - that's how long it has taken to read and re-read the blog.
As Jilly [?] mentioned - it's way too interesting to just skate over ... which is what I'd been doing over a massively busy weekend as life threw some curve balls and a few surprises - not all bad either.

    So it's 5.20am - first things first:

The Neil Young tribute band response - my heartfelt thanks to Canute, Bernard, Craigie-Boy, Mary and Shona for the fine suggestions. A file has been made with your track listings - some I had, some I didn't - and there will be serious playing and judging going on in our house over the next few days.
Other Half is recovering well [thanks all] and will be home this week. I'm on leave also so we'll have plenty of time to indulge ourselves with music around the dining table.

    :^)
