Window open? Window shut? Hint of a breeze or airless night? Woken by the police helicopter 4 times or blissful silence? So many decisions, so early in the day. What seems like a sensible choice at bedtime appears reckless in the small hours. At times like these I remember why I'm a spring and autumn sort of chap really. Weather when you might need a cardigan later seems more natural. Not that I'm wishing the year away you understand-those Hyde Park travel rugs are only a few weeks away anyway-my summer wardrobe is only just coming together (ironing a few t-shirts).
So today we welcome Richard Thompson, the greatest guitarist I've ever seen play live. It was the Cambridge Folk Festival a few years ago and he put on a virtuoso performance. Rolling Stone named him as one of the top 20 guitarists of all time. When he got his lifetime achievement award at the Folk Awards a few years back, it was Mark Knopfler who presented it, claiming that Richard's style was the one he had copied/been inspired by. There's a new album called Acoustic Classics and is, as you might imagine, all-new solo versions of songs across his career. I saw him last week heading for the test match at Lords; I might need to cheer him up a bit by the time he's here at 6.
And until then, how about RORY McILROY oldies? What a brilliant performance at Royal Liverpool to win his first Open Championship over the weekend. All he needs, to go with the claret jug, is a bunch of well-chosen songs in his honour. That's your bit...

Flo - it was Hollywood Waltz that was played not King of Hollywood which was the Eagles tune that TW suggested.

Good morning all - bright and a little cooler down here in the South - so far...........

#68 - Amelia - my mistake re the 3worders - I thought Molly had the basil/aphids one as well, but it was topwifie , as you correctly said. Sorry!

I saw an article about flying ants the other day - maybe that influenced Simon's choice as well as Midge Ure being a guest?

Shona, Deebee will be relieved and so will I as we were a bit unsure what the theme related to. I guessed bees and wasps and promptly tweeted the Billie Piper tune Honey to the BEE

Good morning everyone on this already too hot day!

Well done to Peter Bailey for his first mention last night and thanks for mine shared with Vildeen.
It's a shame that Amelia and Topwifie didn't get mentioned for their songs!

Deebee, I think the family connection/Mother And Child Reunion song will be because of Rory McIlroy's mum, Rosie, hugging her son after his win.

    Good Morning All

The blog looked fine earlier, but now it's gone all funny on me...

Well done for last night's mentions, especially Peter for your debut. Not being a follower of the golf, I didn't really get the family relevance.

Simon has tweeted swarmaggedon oldies. Not a clue. Anyone?

See you when I've finished battling the Cambridge traffic... Actually, it's not too bad now the private schools and sixth forms have finished.

    ~X~

Good morning all. What a joy to read your posts - less of a joy tippy typing on this ipad. Well done for mentions last night - I heard most of the show .

Up with the lark indeed and I'm on bleedin' holiday. Off to find coffee!
