Good morning bloggers. Through London's sparkly streets I go on way to talk about the delights of books and reading to some poor pupils who thought they were going bowling or something. My favourite are top year primary kids as they are the most enthusiastic and cheery. Something happens in that hop to secondary school (hello hormones!) to produce the slightly more self-aware, I'm-not-putting-my-hand-up-if-you-don't attitude. They're all lovely of course...And the other thing I've learned is that (sweeping generalisation alert) girls will read about pretty much anything, but boys will only read about other boys. Not sure when that changes either.
Today's show features the multi-talented Nitin Sawhney who is back on R2 with a new series of Spins The Globe. It'll feature music from around the globe (you might have realised) but Nitin is really another Howard Goodall, another musical genius. He's released 9 albums, scored music for over 40 films and TV programmes. And is an acclaimed flamenco guitarist. And DJ. And writer. You get the picture...
And oldies please on all matters ITALIAN. As the politicians (and comedians) struggle to form a government and the pope retires, all available journalists are in Rome. All of them. So an Italian flavour please, with either of those stories taking prominence in your thoughts.
Have an enlightened and cheerful Wednesday, see you after 5

Mildred and Shona, I wonder if in 40 years time, our grandchildren will talk as fondly of Itch Rocks books and Simon Mayo, as well still do of the Enid Blyton Famous Five, Secret Seven books!

#96 Mildred, Itch and Itch Rocks would be highly suitable and most enjoyable for your grandson to read!

It's still gloomy here. On the bright side (ha!) we had an hour or so of sun late yesterday and it was still a tad light at 6pm. I thoroughly dislike the short days, and look forward to each day being slightly longer. Little things...
I used to practically live at the library when I was a child and read all the Enid Blyton books. Talking of which, it's a grandson's 11th birthday next week (well, he's technically the son of my step-son, but is Mr M's grandson). I have to assume responsibility for all presents for all the family (grrr!) and am deliberating about Itch. This lad always seems to have a book when he visits, but if he's anything like his parents isn't the greatest academic (that's not a criticism, by the way - I'm a huge defender of all qualities in people, and hate the academic snobbery that is prevalent in some circles). He likes science and maths and will be going to secondary school in September. Do you think Itch would be OK for him as one of his presents? I read the first chapter and thought it was brilliant - I really want to read the rest of it. Thanks for any advice.

Good morning all - it's definately brighter today so thanks Florence!!

I love the photo too - I used to love those books when I was a tad younger - we had a mobile library where we lived and I'd pester the life out of the driver for MORE Famous Five/Secret Seven books and I was bereft when I had read them all!

    Good Morning All

Lovely photos Flo! Well done to Parsley_cat, Paul and Mandy and I was kicking myself that I didn't think of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly tune. How could I forget Clint Eastwood! *sighs*

#89 Jennie I'm willing some of this blue sky down your way tomorrow. It was glorious yesterday too and with the sunset we had tonight, and the co0lour of the sky, I'm sure we're having more of the same tomorrow..... sorry #90 Canute... I hope it's nice tomorrow for you as well.

This picture I took after the children were out of primary school this afternoon, reminds me of the Enid Blyton book, 'Five on Kirrin Island' but their dog is called Harry, not Timmy!

#85 Lilac Blue - I don't know how these PR folks do it, I don't think I've got the right personality for the job, I just feel like a guilty pest all the time. I'm going into hiding when he's finished!

He's had some more donations by post today, he thinks it's absolutely wonderful, I wish you could see his little face light up. Thanks to everyone again for good luck messages and everything. Don't worry, it won't be too much longer now! ;-)

#86 Flo - lovely photos, so clear and bright.

#88 Sal - well deserved fish and chips I would imagine. Is there anyone there who can give you a neck/shoulder massage? Do you have a foot spa?

Canute - we've done quite a few of the Scottish islands (not Arran, yet, we'll get around to it). Pure bliss. I could move to North Uist tomorrow. It's the last summer holiday before my daughter goes to high school and turns into a creature unknown to me so we want it to be good and memorable - not that you wouldn't want any holiday to be good and memorable of course. She wants to go somewhere 'different' so Scottish islands are out this year. I think Switzerland is probably still on the cards but my Mr has been looking all over the place so Outer Mongolia could be too!

Blimey, look at the time! See you all in the morning.

Sounds like a good scheme to me Sal! And well done to any mentions tonight.

Beautiful photos Florence - could you send some of that blue sky down South, please? ;0))

Enjoy the rest of the evening everyone
