Well only one place to start and that is the death yesterday of David Jacobs. What a gent, what a radio legend. He's one of that generation of broadcasters who has always been there, an ever-present in our lives, a man who's love and knowledge of music shone through every show; every week I saw him locked away with his producer, meticulously selecting each track for that week's programme. He was always the the jauntiest man in the building, a twinkle in his eye and witty comment at the ready. I only met him when I moved to Radio 2 but always looked forward to bumping into him. I sat opposite him at a showcase that Harper Simon, Paul Simon's son was singing at and it is fair to say that the American was less than impressive. David leant over to me and whispered-though everyone on the table heard- 'Just as well his dad's famous!'. It was pretty much what we all thought but hadn't dared to say. Our condolences to all his family.
Today we welcome James Dean Bradfield and Nicky Wire from the Manic Street Preachers. The Manics are starring at our Hyde Park gig on Sunday and have a new album 'Rewind The Film' out this month. They're one of the best live bands out there and one of the many must-see acts this weekend.
And I think BACK TO SCHOOL oldies will capture the moment perfectly.
Have a golden, sun-kissed Tuesday, see you after 5.

    Morning all,

#88 - PW my choice of words last night to describe the blogging was not clear, I thought what you wrote was sad, it upset me for you and your friend, and Zoe's calmness throughout her situation is a massive tribute to dealing with ongoing difficulties as your friend will have also. Your words made me think last night to do something for a friend of mine who faces similar circumstances, she is at a very low point and i felt bad ( Bad for her ) after reading your words - I need to do something to help her and her family, This blog has spurned me on not caused distress!
I have known her for 32 years - we used to see a lot of each other and last nights blog was a trigger in a positive way that i need to try and do something, just didnt word it well.

#77 Zoe - thanks for the heads up - really appreciate it.

Go well all with all your situations and sorry if i caused alarm - this really is a incredible place - it should not change at all!!

    Over and out

    Hamlin

Lovely morning here. Riding later after work. Hacking round country lanes with the birds busy preparing for the harshness of winter or refuelling for the journey to warmer climes; blackberries in varying stages of ripeness and hues; freshly cut hay fields; the possibility of a glimpse of a hare going about its daily exercise. What's not to like and be happy about. :)
*goes off singing: Accentuate the positive. tra la la...*

Morning everyone - lots of thoughtful articulate posts last night. I think more people should read 'Wonder' to improve their tolerance levels.

I waved my DD off back to school this morning (with beautifully polished shoes) and then sat here with a cup of tea, and clicked on Sal's link from yesterday. More tears - masochistic or what?

Anyway when I get over being maudlin I've a stack of washing and housework to do, then off to collect the Dowager Countess who is coming to stay for a few days. I may be on the Jocko juice this evening.

See you later if it's an early blog and if not good luck with the tunes for this evening - and congrats on the menshes last night all.

    Good Morning All

It's good to share, and this is a very caring, sharing place. But there is some quite personal stuff going on above and I think we sometimes tend to forget that the blog is a public site, which can be read by anyone, not just our little community of regular bloggers. And yes, I know there is an element of "pot, kettle, black" about what I've just said... Anyway, a big virtual hug going out to any bloggers who need it this morning.

PW, you couldn't upset or offend anyone if you tried really, really hard - you are one of the kindest, sweetest people I know.

Oh, and well done for all menshes yesterday. Two days in a row for me - maybe I should retire gracefully now...

    ;o)

PW - it is totally understandable. The ignorance and intolernace people like myself face everyday is unbelievable. Don't get me wrong, there are also some fab people too.

I left London to go to University (pedantically Polytechnic) mainly because of the ignorance & intolerance at school etc. Also having had a negative family life where the only memory I have is that of DomesticViolence. And in full view of the neighbours!

Just popped back to say that I am really sorry if I offended or upset anyone with my posts earlier. Not intentional in any way. Just a subject close to my heart. Should have kept my own counsel.
By the time you read this, it will be properly morning, so have good days all x

    Evening folks

On phone so just quick read back - hugs to all those bloggers in need of them tonight.

I have no idea where I read this recently but someone said a good test if you have good friends is if you would want them as your parents. Interesting idea perhaps - most of you on here would pass I think ;-)

And lovely to see a few much missed bloggers back - Katy, PCM, Gill & Julia - anyone I have missed feel free to throw soft rolls at me.

And hello to new bloggers - especially to Edinburgh Canary - I think you mentioned you were in the audience for one of the shows - do stay for a chat as well as tune choosing should you wish.

My tetchiness - is there such a word - was short lived as ever but thank you for all the kind words.

A pleasant evening gallivanting & buying photo frames.

Abba was an inspired choice Sal, Gill & Julie & had us singing / weeping along in the car. And I can't remember the last time we had some Björk.

Another Brick In The Wall - Pink Floyd - Katy & Yozz

Slipping Through My Fingers - Abba - muggle

Remember The Days Of The Old Schoolyard - Lady B, Hamlin & Mandy

New Shoes - Paolo Nutini - Deebee, Zoe & PSL

It's Oh So Quiet - Björk - muggle
