Tell me Y

Simon Mayo | 09:41 UK time, Thursday, 23 February 2012

Well good morning to you all. Mild indeed, house too hot- early morning adjustment needed. Looking forward to a touch of spring today. I know it hasn't been that cold this winter but the arrival of warmth (and a thinner jacket selection) is a cause for cheerfulness. I know it's back to normal by the weekend but as Lena Martel so memorably told us 'One day at a time'. And today looks good.
Melvyn was an old smoothie last night. Still a twinkle in the eye and bounce in the famous, lustrous locks. 72 would you believe! And working just as hard as ever with a brain full of stuff. Not everyone agreed with his main premise but the fact that we are less class-obsessed is surely true; we have better things to be bothered about.
Re. fewer postings. Will find out if there are tech reasons and increased difficulty in leaving comments. What are bloggers thoughts here? Will pass on to the BBC Dept of Blogging Affairs Investigation Unit to find out what has been going on. If its more complicated and boring to make your way through the system, questions must be asked...
Nigel does cookies today! Yes, it's big biscuit time. Probably with chocolate in too which is very bad news for Rebecca's Lenten avoidance of sugar. The smell might be the thing that gets to her in the end. Could you resist freshly baked cookies at 6pm? I think not.
And oldies please on the subject of MEN, MALENESS and the Y CHROMOSOME. It seems that men are not about to wither away. There had been reports which suggested that the Y chromosome had shrivelled and that as a result men could disappear in around 5 million years. Anyway, research now says that's rot and the Y is healthy and stable and has been for millions of Years. So that's all right then.
Have a mild and reassuring Thursday, see you after 5.

Technical Alert - Simon, would be most grateful if you could alert the BBC's Dept of BAIU that technical problems have been experienced posting to the blog - a small green error box appears, proclaiming that posting comments is currently not possible. Multiple refreshes seems to clear the problem eventually. But it's a right royal pain.

    Morning all,

First of all, thanks for playing my choon last night Simon and apologies to those that didn't like it. I think we all have a song or artist that set our teeth on edge or make us nauseas, often classics in other's opinion. I for one can't bear 'Where Do You Go To My Lovely', especially the fake laugh in the middle *shudders*. I know, crackers, eh?!

Anyways, already tons of top choice - here’s my selection:

    'Wild Boys' - Duran Duran
'Papa Was A Rolling Stone' - The Temptations
'The Joker' – Steve Miller Band
'Sharp Dressed Man' - ZZ Top

    And today’s HOIB contender:

‘Stand By Your Man’ – Tammy Wynette

‘Cos after all, he is just a man…..

    Afternoon all,
DT team, bloggers old, new, red-nosed and basking in the predicted glorious sunshine (NOT)...plus of course the DT Dude stumbling finally towards the end of what has got to have been a v e r y long week (or is it two, technically..)

I FB'd on the DT pages (as I was on there anywho),
    Working the 'Gene' thing:

    Jean Genie David Bowie
Forever in blue jeans by Neil Diamond

    And for the Man thing:

Kate Bush's Man with the child in his eyes,
When a man loves a woman Percy Sledge and
10CC Not in love for 'Big Boys don't cry' line...
NB I've seen tears in men's eyes...esp on footie terraces!

Good luck with the menshes all, I heard EBTG's 'MISSING' played last night (which I suggested as a LENT theme), but it was a normal DT choon - happy to help out with the record selection, chaps!

    RE BLOGGING PROBLEMS Mr Mayo
    Yeah what he said #15
    Yeah what she said #17
and YES PLEASE what #31 said - refreshing the page means bouncing back to page 1 and much as it's nice to see the DT Dude's smiling fissog, (Rosie and Jim speak for face) - I don't need to see it every time (oh nor do my office, or anyone passing my PC..)

Have just spent a lovely hour tidying round the patio in glorious sunshine. Had to take fleece off - too warm! The fish in the pond also seemed to enjoy the warm weather, basking in the top layer of the water and getting a bit of warmth from the sun.

Even next doors cat, who is nearing 20 years old, put in an appearance and she doesn't usually go anywhere til late Spring when it is much warmer!

    Afternoon all!

Well, I made it up to London and back again! 3 worder: NO COAT REQUIRED! Highly successful meeting. My cv was put forward for a role and by the time I got home, an interview has been arranged for next Wednesday! Immediate start, contract to early May but possibly extending to July, which means I take the rest of summer off. Hurrah's all round! Came home to a shirtless Ziggy and 3 cats basking in the garden (I think they were eyeing him up - such tarts they are).

    Catching up:

Whoops Deebee! I "lost" your FB message and have now found it. Will respond.

Katy. Katy. Katy Katy Katy. I will miss you hugely but look forward to seeing you at Easter!

Harry, would you like a cushion on the naughty step? Don't want you getting all rheumatic. Or even worse, piles.

STILL have not experienced the green box and am STILL feeling seriously left out.

Cakes, hats, scarfs and crowns can be copied and pasted from previous blog entries. In Katy's absence, lets all take collective responsibility for awarding them - whoever is there first.

    Back in a bit.

Evening all - will read back later hopefully but just wanted to pop by with a message for Simon and the team:

I have been feeling really out of sorts for the last few days but have been putting on a positive face and resorting to dreadful humour on this blog to get me through. But....

Tonight's confession, OMD, a flour-covered dance around the kitchen with my 5 year old to the Killers (we are making shortbread whilst Nigel Thursday is on) and my people's verdict text being read out has made me smile again.

    So, thank you.

Bet the team will be delighted to hear the show can have such a positive effect, Hoffs.

Well done on contract extensions and good luck for interviews for new contracts.

Hi Billie. Not too bad, thanks. Lots going on but that's life, isn't it. How are you?

#93 Viking Mo... I've been trying to post a message to say well done to bloggers' menshes (WELL DONE EVERYONE including Billie, whose name was just on) and refreshed loads of times and only got rid of the green box by logging off and back on again!

Is the "green box" still getting in the way for everyone? It is here!
