This Christmas the BBC is conducting a surround sound experiment. You can find out more about what we are doing and why we are doing it by reading this blog post by Rupert Brun.

BBC R&D are involved with one aspect of this experiment. We are investigating ways of improving the experience for people listening to our content using headphones.

Here is a short video where I explain how and why we are doing this.

In order to see this content you need to have both Javascript enabled and Flash Installed. Visit BBC Webwise for full instructions. If you're reading via RSS, you'll need to visit the blog to access this content.

We have created a number of different versions of 2007's A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. Each of the versions has been processed in a different manner. At the beginning of each version of the service an audio test sequence plays, giving you time to decide if you like that version or not. You do not need to listen to the entirety of each version in order to take part.

To take part follow this link to hear our recordings (make sure you put on your headphones).

To fill in the survey and provide us with some feedback please follow this link.

I hope you enjoy the experiment and have a happy Christmas.
