To mark the 70th anniversary of Desert Island Discs, a unique concert is taking place on Monday 3rd September as part of the BBC Proms. Kirsty Young will be joined by former castaways live on stage at the Royal Albert Hall to share some of their musical choices.

We'll be running a live chat during the concert, so come to this post on Monday evening at 7pm to join in the conversation as you listen.

I remember first going to RAH in mid 60's to the MAYC weekends, High jinks on Saturday with worship and that fantastic organ on Sunday.

I guess it is such experiences that gradually introduce those of us from non musical families to really great music, and the Mr Jex's of this world who teach music to primary age school children.

Just one lesson a week, at Selwyn Avenue Boys Junior School, Walthamstow circa 1957/8/9. I did not realise then how important that sort of education is as well as frequent gramophone introits of special pieces, with the title written on a piece of card, Finlandia, Greensleeves etc., simple but it lasts a lifetime!

Some of my favorite desert island discs would be Ray Charles singing "Let's Go get Stoned" or "I Can't Stop Loving You." Ray Charles is my all time favorite singer. I also love B.B. King's "The Thrill is Gone" and Mahalia Jackson's "Move on Up A Little Higher." My sister and I used to harmonize with Eddy Arnold's "Bouquet of Roses". That's a really pretty but sad song. Etta James' "Tell Mama", Mary J. Blige's "Just Fine", Aretha Franklin's "Do Right Woman" and Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive." I'd probably round my list out with my song, "You Got the Love".

Great job by Huddersfield Choral. Just sad that I couldn't be with them tonight

John Sessions was very amusing but I feel for all my mates. This was timed to finish at 21:40 and Huddersfield Choral have to get into coaches and head off up the motorway and home as soon as it is over. It will be around 3am before they get back.
