It's Wagner vs Verdi. Little Mix vs One Direction. Girls vs boys...
We challenged nearly 200 musicians to 'be a hero' for BBC Children in Need. So the BBC Philharmonic and The Hallé orchestras joined forces with ten of the UK’s best young singers and conductors Sian Edwards and Clark Rundell for an exciting Radio 3 fundraiser.
Radio 3 and composer Steve Pycroft put together two tracks combining the song 'Wings' by girl-band Little Mix with Wagner’s 'Ride of the Valkyries', and One Direction’s 'What Makes You Beautiful' with Verdi’s 'Anvil Chorus'. Watch what happened behind the scenes.
In the girls’ corner are singers Ruby Hughes, Clara Mouriz, Charlotte Trepess, Elizabeth Watts and Kitty Whately, with the ladies of the BBC Philharmonic and The Hallé conducted by Sian Edwards, and with special guests – violinist Tasmin Little and pianist Kathryn Stott.

In the boys’ corner are singers Benjamin Appl, Jonathan McGovern, Tim Mead, Nick Pritchard and Robin Tritschler with the gentlemen of the BBC Philharmonic and The Hallé conducted by Clark Rundell, and with special guests – pianists Gwilym Simcock and David Quigley.
