MaestroCam on the messageboards

Roland Taylor Roland Taylor | 07:39 UK Time, Saturday, 29 August 2009

I've just been reading a few people's views on the Radio 3 Messageboards. Some are keen on the service, some not. I've had my say. I like it.

What are your thoughts?

If you've never contributed to the messageboards why not join the debate or have your say by commenting on this blog.

I bet I'm not the only cynical old something to point out that my Greek Lexicon trnaslates Psophos (the talented String Quartet) as 'an inarticulate sound; a noise' !!

  • Comment number 2.

Watching the Proms on BBC 4 last week, my mind slipped, as you do, to wondering how expensive it was to transport the Mahler Youth Orchestra’s harp and large items of percussion across Europe. The Proms and, up here, the Edinburgh Festival seems to put a premium on visiting orchestras – indeed they are usually the USP of most festivals. Is there any real point in this? Luscious though the Kindertotenlieder was, I can’t think it was any ‘better’ than that I heard with the Halle, the home band, at the Bridgewater Hall when I lived in Manchester. Given that the difference between most of the world’s top orchestras must be fairly marginal, is there much to be gained from paying a premium to inflate ticket prices and add unnecessarily air-miles to global warming? Surely, the message (the music) is The Thing, not the messenger.
