Lou Reed and the Velvets on 6 Music

The Velvet Underground from 1970: Doug Yule, Lou Reed, Sterling Morrison and Maureen 'Moe' Tucker

The legend that is Lou Reed is coming to Radio 6 Music with his own music show starting on Sunday 14 October running for 12 weeks. Reed will co-host the show with music producer Hal Willner playing everything from jazz to the newest indie, to vintage rock.

As part of the season there'll be linked programmes including:

  • Founder member of The Velvet Underground John Cale talks to Mike Everitt about his experiences during his 30 years career
  • Lauren Laverne will be playing her favourite Lou Reed and Velvet Underground cover versions
  • Shaun Keaveny will unveil 6 Music’s very own version of Lou Reed’s Perfect Day starring all of 6 Music’s presenters
  • Marc Riley, Jarvis and Huey Morgan will host themed shows exploring the influences and themes of Lou Reed’s music, New York, art and the musicians he worked with
