How HBOS escaped closure 12:54pm on 04 Dec 2009 31 is absolutely right. There is a lot more we still don't know, and we won't as long as Gordon is controlling what is released. Why is it that to a labour government, top bankers' jobs and income are protected, but 1,700 steelworkers can go whistle when a contract falls through? I'm not saying we should throw money at Corus, but we really need to separate casino banking from retail banking, so that the casino side can be allowed to fail in future. And bankers' bonuses need to be more long term,so that they are exposed to the full risks of any decisions they make. But there is no sign of the government doing any of this.
'Senseless tragedy'? 6:20pm on 06 Nov 2009 There is camera footage of him shopping in a convenience store on the base a few hours before he shot the unarmed soldiers, dressed in white robes and a prayer hat. Make of that what you will.
Your ideas 6:46pm on 15 Oct 2009 DavySims- this appears to suggest the BBC puts on a politically biased programme in time for the next election. (I sense some criticism of Margaret Thatcher,pbbuh) I certainly hope they don't fall for it.
A few points about my article 1:05pm on 14 Oct 2009 I was a bit disappointed to read your original story. I realised I'd been looking forward to some warmer temperatures over the next few years. Clearly the current climate change models have to be worked on if they didn't predict this recent cooler period. Let's hope the Met office are right for once, and things start to warm up soon.
Plenty to talk about, in private 12:52pm on 02 Sep 2009 Brown has found a wonderful new scapegoat, the Scottish Executive. The recession was (is) all america's fault, but now the scots can expect to be blamed for all sorts of domestic decisions. But that will not be enough. Gordon needs to develop a split personality, called Hamish. Hamish will be the bad person who makes all the bad decisions, while Gordon remains totally blameless and even successful.

There are so many badly drafted laws around these days that have been rushed through parliament. Does the speaker really have the power to affect this though?

The piece on Californian fiscal problems was a refreshing change from domestic political stories, but subtle in the reference to people wanting social benefits but not prepared to pay for them.
