World Twenty20 team of the tournament 8:50pm on 21 Jun 2009 nearly perfect oliver, but swap akmal for o'brien and its pretty much spot on, a bit harsh on kallis. How can u pick akmal over o'brien is beyond me, i mean he must be the most dopiest person in when and how he gives his wicket away. O'brien for England!!
Tribute to the Bearded Wonder 6:31pm on 30 Jan 2009 great guy, funny and a top servant for cricket. i was shocked that he died so quickly, i thought he had been well i mean he did cover last yrs india's tests. What happened? Will be sorely missed

Lack of runs costs emotional Vaughan 7:58pm on 03 Aug 2008 Broad (Good young talent, had his rest, and picked up wickets for Notts again, good character)

S Jones (Seems to have got over his injury worries and has shown the form that has rekindled people’s imagination about his bowling Ashes victory in 2005)

Harmison (Say what you like about his determination for England, but he is by far the only player after Flintoff that can bowl aggressively. He has been hittin 90mph this season for Durham, and also been picking up wickets like sweets. Deserves a second chance)

Shreck/Hoggard (Both swing bowlers, and also proving to take wickets cheaply. Shreck had enough injury problems to last a lifetime, but has been regaining fitness over past couple of years, and is proving to be an equal threat as Sidebottom. Hoggard has also show the character and form that reminds us of the gritty figure he is in test cricket)

Panesar/Croft (Ignoring Rashid who I don’t rate as yet, Croft has shown why he can perform like Hick and Ramps. He is again prospering in a strengthened Glamorgan side. He was fairly mis used in the 90’s for England, but given a chance can show why he is known as an off spinner)
Lack of runs costs emotional Vaughan 7:57pm on 03 Aug 2008 Hick (A 30 average at Test Cricket does not tell the story of Mr Hick, again county form has shown that he can still show the youngsters how 40 year olds do it, again can bowl a bit of off-spin and could be a handy match winner)

Sales/Prior (One of the most honest batsmen never to be recognised by the selectors. Consistently hitting the 40 average season after season, David has proved that this wily old figure can produce runs. Albeit he deserves one test if it is to be his last. Also Sales can keep wicket just like Prior, who is proving that he is the best wicketkeeper batsmen we have on the county circuit)
Lack of runs costs emotional Vaughan 7:56pm on 03 Aug 2008 Good commentary as ever from the TMS team. It is a joy to listen to aggers and co. Anyway, a dead rubber test is perfect a time for changes, and this is the XI I would pick for the 4th test and why.

Strauss (Was a good captain 2006, and needs to regain the groove and momentum he had from the NZ tour earlier this year)

Key (Not many people can say that they have a double hundred in test cricket, but Key can. I have got the impression that he has matured by being captain of Kent and winning trophies, and his form has also improved. Deserves a chance)

Ramprakash (What has this guy not done to gain a recall. Ramps has been treated like dirt by the ECB, as have other players. Ok, he hasn’t been god’s finest gift at Test Cricket, but if county form ever told a story, he would be in the top 3 every time for England)
Lack of runs costs emotional Vaughan 7:53pm on 03 Aug 2008 deeply unhappy and saddened by the news today. England have a habit of losing captains due to stress or pressure (is the media reponsible). What can i say, i followed vaughan since the start of his test career which must have been 1999. It is a shame to see his resign as captain, but he has given England 100% effort and all i can say is thanks for the memories and the hard work, and i hope you make it back into the england team for the ashes next year

Team of the tournament 3:24pm on 04 Jul 2008 it begs beyond belief how silva gets in instead of arda and podolski, hes just a little brat who didnt nothing apart from headbutt podolski, and score a goal against a broken russian team
Team of the tournament 12:14pm on 03 Jul 2008 Well, after looking at the various views, I’ve decided to change my team, and also explain why I have picked these players. Here it goes:

Formation: 4-4-2

GK: Buffon (Italy) : Proved to me why he has been one of the best goalkeepers for some time. Good instinct save from Mutu kept Italy in it, and proved what makes any goalkeeper great, being able to concentrate and save shots, even when you team is in the ascendancy.

RB: Ramos (Spain) : Tbh, I didn’t know what all the fuss was about with Ramos, He had a very mediocre start, but began to improve and showed good defensive and attacking qualities.

CB: Simunic (Croatia) : Was a solid backbone for a talented Croatian side. Put in a good performance against Turkey, keeping the likes of Arda and Nihat at bay. Good all-round player.

CB: Servet (Turkey) : This may cause some surprises, but I feel that Servet does deserve a mention even though Chileni was close to inclusion. Servet had a lot of doubters early in his career, but showed his commitment for Turkey. He may be forgiven after the Swiss match because of the conditions, but against Czech’s he showed the fighting qualities of Turkey. He was given the run around by Koller but gave it his all, even coming close 2 scoring. Also, he had carried 2 injuries in the latter
part of that match, but carried on anyway.

LB: Pranjic (Croatia) : Solid defensively compared to others e.g. Lahm, and also proved that he is an attacking gem.

RM: Schwingster (Germany) : Again, I didn’t no what made this player so highly rated. He did have a quiet tourney 2 begin, but proved a point after the ridiculous sending off he imposed on himself. Was more influential then Ballack in the knockout stages and performed well

CM: Hamit Altintop (Turkey) : One of the most underrated players of Euro 2008. Hamit was a constant driving force for Turkey. He contributed 3 assists, and also led the force attacking and defensively against the Germans. Was a hardworking and intelligent player, and with Tuncay next to him in midfield, it was one of the best midfield combos of the tourney.

CM: Fabregas (Spain) : Impact player, created chances, superb passing, what more can u say!

LM: Arda (Turkey) : A young and talented individual with an eye for goal. Miles better then that overrated brat Silva! Arda came into the Turkish first XI at a key time when it was all or nothing. Arda produced just flashes of his talent in the quarter final, but that was a credit to the Croatian defence. Against the Czech’s and the Swiss, he was a superb played in the playmaker role, constantly switching flanks to provide crosses and assists. One of the best players if not the best of Euro 2008.

CF: Semih (Turkey) : Critical goals when needed, great goals against the Swiss and Croatian, great little player.

CF: Podolski (Germany) : Even though he didn’t play CF in the euros, he was a great player constantly producing the goods for his country.

Subs:

GK: Boruc (Poland) : Made some great saves, kept his team in it more then once, just a shame the outfield players never lived up to their promise.

RB: Sabri (Turkey) : Not the best defensively, but made positive impacts against the Czechs and Germans.

LB: Van Bronkhorst (Holland) : Loads of energy for the ageing wingback, which could be seen in the Italian match.

CM: Modric (Croatia) : Talented midfielder, just missed out because his team fell at the quarter final stage, but for sure an up and coming legend.

CF: Nihat (Turkey) : The Czech game was where Nihat made a real impression. His endeavour, assists and goals were key for Turkey. Him and Semih were one of the best strike forces statistically in the Euros.
