I have to disagree

People are definitely ready to have stuff given to them over the internet(hence the populartity of the p2p community), the corporations are the ones who aren't ready.

It is exactly the same situation that we are facing with music and films.

I have to disagree, most people don't know what internet explorer is, the simply just click on start and then internet, they don't necessarily know what the name of the software actually is. I have had so many blank faces when I ask people if they use internet explorer.

Also there is huge amounts of money to be made in the browser wars. People use defaults and so the default search engine makes a fortune for microsoft and google. Google pays mozilla millions for search referals from firefox.
What is a web browser? 00:20am on 08 Oct 2009 I was thinking about the comparison between the browsers the other day. I have IE8 on my machine (only because I use Chinese internet and that doesn't function properly in any other browser) and so I have to use it every day. If you put Chrome up against IE the difference is almost laughable, it makes you wonder why anyone even uses that hunk of tripe. Yet Chrome is still only pulling a tiny percent of users, and many of those transferred from firefox.

I guess as Chrome develops it will start to pull more and more firefox users which will be a shame as firefox in itself is still much much better than ie.

The key is education and the fact is that although more people are using the internet still not many of them actually know what it is, as long as they can get facebook and the news they are happy. While ms is shipping ie with windows it is still going to be the dominant browser no matter how horrible it is to use.

What can music teach telly? 3:30pm on 28 Aug 2009 I live in a country where it is acceptable to download via torrents (I hope this statement will mean I don't get canned for encouraging downloading of illegal material by the far to strict moderators)

I have my computer setup with a remote control a cable going from my computer to the tv some free htpc software. I set my torrent software to download the programs I like automatically by RSS and hey presto when I come to watch TV what I want to see is there.

I am not a programmer or even an enthusiast, I just like TV and movies. If I could pay for this service I would, but I just can't, surely this is going to start catching on and people are going to be used to it in a few years and then TV productions will have no way of finding finance...I hope they can pick something up from the ignorance of the music industry, and start binning these ridiculous complicated cross border agreements.
Stuttering start for Benitez 08:15am on 17 Aug 2009 I really don't understand the logic of those claiming Liverpool are favourites to win the league this year.

The past 5 seasons have seen change in the premier league, that has been talked about by both phil and hansen.

Strength in depth is key.

Liverpool have none.

Basically people are basing the idea of Liverpool winning the league on how well Gerrard and Torres can sometimes play together....nothing else.

I really think that an aging Chelsea and possibly Arsenal can give United a better run for their money this year than Liverpool. The punched way above their weight last year, can't see them doing it 2 years in a row.

I honestly can't believe that you think that the league can't be won without depth. Liverpool used to have a bit of depth in midfield in that they had three decent central midfielders now one of them is gone, and they are still very weak out wide...

United have lost Ronaldo, but they won the league last season and got to the CL final without him anywhere near his best. I really can't see anyone else beating untied.

Chelsea have got a year older...

Arsenal don;t have any grit.

City will be interesting, but not champions.

I think you have hit the nail on the head, and most of these complainers actually have no idea about the power and potential that twitter has. It is an open news channel and information just flies so fast.

The search and trending topics features (which have been upgraded on he new homepage) can let you see news that a)isn't on the mainstream news yet as it moves so slowly, and b)would never get on the mainstream news because of some suit in a comfortable office with a political agenda.
