I really can't see Owen making the squad and whilst it will be time to reflect on his contribution in the past I hope the media don't go overboard with statements like 'Owen omitted'. Everyone is omitted by default and those that go are selected. How can Owen be omitted from something he hasn't been a part of for, what, 18 months now?

Wasn't he omitted because he was in the initial squad, then omitted from the reduced proper squad ? I may be wrong but i thought he had been selected in the recent initial squads.

I keep hearing comments like this, but surely Setanta took the rights to the EPL games that Sky showed on there PPV?! So you already had to subscribe twice before to watch all EPL games, albeit subscribe twice to the same company. So before you had to pay £100 a season for the ppv season ticket, or £7 a game. Now its £10 a month for Setanta. So even if you subscribe all year to Setanta its £120, only £20 more than before, and you get a hell of a lot more sport to watch for that price. And even if you just want to watch EPL games and nothing else, you could just subscribe in august and cancel at the end of may and pay the same amount as the PPV on Sky. When you look at things like that, Setanta seems like a bit of a bargain to me. I think its a shame they might go bust, lets just hope if they do their EPL coverage doesn't go to ITV!

Penalties, 3 of them could have easily been given, but i can see why all 3 weren't.

Referee, was'sn't up to scratch despite the penalties, the sending off being the main offense.

But the point i want to make, why does everyone keep banging on about the ref should be from a country with a top league in so he is used to this sort of occasion ? you all make it sound like the referees in the prem are all brilliant because the ply there trade in a top league. Last time i checked most of the english ref's are pretty hopeless too.
Man Utd pile on agony for Wenger 10:47am on 06 May 2009 Disappointed Phil, normally i agree with most of what you say, but today I hink you have just jumped on some sensationalised journalism. Man Utd weren't THAT good, Arsenal weren't THAT bad, it was a combination of the two, but not to the extremes you suggest. If it weren't for that slip by Gibbs i think the game would have been very different. I'm not for one minute suggesting Arsenal would have won if not for that, but i thought they started brightly, albeit only for 8 minutes. If Utd hadn't got that bit of fortune, would RVP have let his frustatrion out and given away the silly freekick which led to Ronaldos first?
I said before the game that i thought Man U would be too strong for Arsenal, and i do believe Man U are better than Arsenal, but to go on about the 'chasm' between these two clubs is a bit ridiculous. The main difference in actual personel, is as you pointed out, holding midfield and centre backs. I personally think Toure and Gallas when both fully fit are individually both very good players. Maybe not as good as Ferdinand and Vidic, but then who is? The main problem to me is defensive midfield role. I honestly believe if Arsenal had a proper holding player, Toure and Gallas wouldn't look as shaky as they have been over the past two years. They get absolutely no cover from the Arsenal midfield and therefore look worse than they actually are. Arsene needs to bite the bullet and go splash the cash on a replacement for Vieira/Gilberto. Ever since those towo have left, the gunners have always looked a bit shaky to me. But one weak link in a team hardly spells for a chasm, as you put it.

Relyin' on Ryan 11:51am on 28 Apr 2009 I can't believe some Utd fans are trying to justify the penalty decision. Come on, just hold your hands up and admit you got a very lucky decision. Its nothing to be ashamed off. It happens to everyone, it was just a shocking decision. Gomes took the ball then the player, simple. All this 50/50, debatable, no it was never a penalty. and for those saying, the ref was too far away, or there were people blocking his view, simple matter is if he isn't sure, he isn't suppose to give the penalty. Anyways, ranting on there, my point was that you got a lucky decision, but who cares, did it change the outcome of the game, maybe, did it change the outcome of the season, i highly doubt it. Liverpool have had there fair share of lucky decisions too.

Also to point out the muppets moaning that Robbo talks about Utd and Liverpool etc more than any other teams... well surely that is because they are the most popular teams, with the most supporters, and with the most media coverage. If he constantly talked about Boro and the Geordies all you Big 4 supporters would be moaning that your not getting enough coverage. as i said MUPPETS!!
No carping about Kaka coup 08:24am on 19 Jan 2009 Is one player worth £100m+ ? i dont think so, but surely what man city are paying for here is more than a player, its a statement of intent. IF they can get Kaka in, suddenly its going to be a lot more tempting for the rest of europes elite to be joining the Citeh revolution. I think honestly if in this transfer window City only sign Kaka, they will have made a big mistake, as its plain for all to see that they need strengthening at the other end of the pitch, but if they sign Kaka and a solid DM and maybe a couple of class defenders, with the Prem table being so tight, a european place suddenly looks viable again, and with european football and kaka on board for next season, city will be looking a pretty sweet prospect for most players looking for money or silverwear. Fair play to them if you ask me, its a fairly big gamble, but its not like the sheik's can't afford it!
Capello will keep England grounded 11:19am on 09 Oct 2008 Gerrard and Lampard should only play together if you play a 3 man CM. Gerrard shouldn't play on the wing, complete waste of his talent. If you stick with a 2 man CM then pick one or the other. I would go for Gerrard, but there both on great form so who cares! My only concern at the moment, is why the hell isn't Ashley Young in the squad?! Its madness. I haven't seen Downing play for Middleborough this season, so maybe i am not in a position to judge him, but he was woeful for England last time he played. What more does Young have to do. He got in the Prem team of the year last year, he started this season at a similarly high standard. I can understand if a manager wants a natural left footer, but surely he should be in the squad at least!

Fair enough if you think the coverage is worst, i personally dont but anyways.

Surely the fact that setanta have come along to rival sky is only going to be good in the long run at least, because sky will realise they can't keep charging such high prices for there sports coverage.

Atm on the package i have (virgin media) i pay £20 for sky sports and £10 for setanta, i defo feel that setanta is better value for money if your a footy fan, if your weird and like other sports then sky is still probably better value ;)

hahaha classic! Crouch can run? Other than Beckham crouch is the slowest player around, hence why he shouldn't be in the england team, especially if were playing one upfront. Crouch is good, but as Walcott proved last night, pace is essential in football now, unless your Zidane.
