British banks and Dubai 01:23am on 28 Nov 2009 Abu Dahabi is now buying up Dubai bond debt at at miraculously low price of abot 40 c in the Dollar and will make a very quick 50% profit in the next few weeks.

This is an un story, a mere matter of fiscal arbitrage.

Look at hte assets of Q'tar and the rest of the very quiet U.A.E and see how Dubai is the stalking horse, front office bookies runner for the U.A.E bookies.

I would love to be in the position of the other Emirates and pick up the $20 billion in quick cash that this little "crisis" will make them.

This is insider trading on a huge and blatant scale.

U.A.E has the funds, Dubai screams "Default" , Dubai bonds tank, U.A.E buys said bonds and debt, Dubai admits " it ain't that bad" Bonds etc recover.

U.A.E takes 3 years worth of net Oil revenue in the back pocket. Simples.

The ADVISORS may advise as requested.

They may be experts in the medical effects, cost of harm , likely outcomes in terms of death etc, but it is the government who are charged with protecting our society against trends, activities and behaviours that despite their appeal harm the fabric of society.

They can not reverse thousands of years of human development.

They can apply a braking effect to actions that may cause as yet undetermined damage to that fabric.

Widespread cannabis use is a myth! It is segregated by certain socio-economic groupings.

It causes least damage to those classes where education and ability give a choice of lifestyles and activities; and is utterly corrosive in the meaningless squalor of the sink estates where any means of numbing the existensial agony of daily existence is grasped with all its potential consequences for a Hogarthian hell substituting Dope for gin.

The obvious bias of this issue's reportage via the BBC and in particular this blog, seem to indicate that there is no random drug testing in the establishment.

The output in certain areas seems by my experience of functioning druggies to indicate that in some areas of the organisation it is almost compulsory.

I have just watched 30 minutes of prime time BBC1 News that if it had been restricted to factual reporting would have lasted no more than 3 minutes. That is a fairly normal ratio for the conversational output of the average functioning Cannabis user.

I am not one who believes cannabis per se is an evil; I have a biochemical educational background , my objections to its legalisation and spread are purely to do with what is does to populations rather than the individual.

As to the professor who has been so rightly required to resign; no one elcted him to proselytise , no one in government required him to make policy statements, it is obvious that he has acquired a political position regarding his subject.

In that case he should take it to the public as an independent advocate of drug legalisation and like ALL those who have taken that route gain a few hundred votes in a by-election.

You are all so, so ,so wrong in your advocacy and it has nothing to do with leading on to harder drugs, individual freedoms or whether Alcohol and Tobacco are more physically dangerous.

It is about the TRUE moral state of the nation.

I say that as a committed opponent of any myth based beliefs, i.e religions, philosophies based on non scientifically proved premises, in fact anything that purports to belief in any other fact than that we live as best we can and then cease to exist.

The nice guy who does you your eighth or quarter may be just like you, a non-aggressive, useful member of society, the guy that he gets his ounce or two from may just seem like a "spacey" dude who is good for a laugh and knows where all the good squat parties are. The guy with the pit bulls who can get a bit sharp if he isn't paid quick enough for the half a bar trippy Trev bought is not such a sweetie and the people he gets his from you really do not want to know.

The weed/blow/skunk in your little bag does not on average come from a "good life" greenhouse, its from a wrecked rental house cultivated by Vietnamese slaves who have had their passports retained by the people smugglers that import them to do the job.

"AH, WAIT!" you say, "IF IT WAS LEGALISED ALL THIS HORROR WOULD GO AWAY!" and then follow up with an argument already posted on here that its only because Cannabis dealers usually also hawk class A's that people move onto them.

Well listen up!

I don't care about ANY of your arguments because for 40 years you have been not only breaking the law but supporting a pyramid of extortion, slavery, prostitution, murder and ruined lives.

You can not deny it, you are all guilty as charged, the argument over legalising is no excuse for the fact that by contributing to the illegal drugs empire you have slaughtered the beheaded of the Mexican borders, turned areas of Jamaica into charnel houses, South Central L.A into a scene from a Terminator movie and in the UK turned the grotesqueries of "Trainspotting" into an every estate idyll.

Legal or Illegal is an argument, what you do and have done is conspiracy to commit murder and that is a fact.

Just as the vast majority of alcohol drinkers manage to do so and continue to behave in a civilised manner, I am sure the same distribution applies to cannabis users, though the amount of active chemical ingested by the cannabis user is less easily self-controlled.

However I would suggest to the Cannabis apologist/myth maintainers they should undertake their recreational drug use on some of the council estates of Oxford, South Shields or the Glasgow projects. A little "trucking on" around Railton road, Stockwell Park, Hoxton or the Sprawl of White City, Roehampton Estate or Toxteth,Croxted or similar may open their eyes to the "pacifying magic" of Skunk.

If that fails I can introduce them to a few thousand motorcycle gang members who wary of the dreaded breathalyser and its consequences also prefer "skinning up" to sinking a few, while planning their next gun running, drug running extravaganza.

Cannabis may always be associated with the "Summer of Love", but you ask any Jamaican non-yardie what they think the life expectancy of a young man back in the yard is and I think you get a sub-30 answer.

Drug use is simply indicative of dysfunction, whether caused by social exclusion or personal inadequacy.

Scientists v Politicians: Round 3 10:18am on 29 Oct 2009 Just as the majority in this country would welcome the return of Capital punishment, genuine Hard Labour and immediate custodial sentences for first offenders for robbery or burglary offences; they also believe that any drug possession outside those currently legal or prescribed should continue to be an offence.

It is not because of the effect of drug use so much as what the disregard for the law as it stands implies.

A zero tolerance approach to littering, public verbal obscenity, failure to tax and insure vehicles, disregard of licence disqualification and even the possession of the smallest amount of drugs for personal use are known by the public to indicate that the person involved is an enemy of the common good.

We know not and care less, what the effects of any particular drug is on the individual, but do know that the occasional cannabis user is almost certainly going to be the occasional binge drinker and performer of anti-social behaviour or an apologist for the same.

It is not the drug or alcohol we wish controlled it is the behaviours that are implicit in the attitudes of the users.

If class A addicts were all heroin users then an argument could be made for "registered" status, but as much if not more damage to society is caused by the less controllable abusers of Crack, Crystal Meth and all their variants.

The nature of the Drug problem is not the product or its scientifically determined effects but the dysfunctionality and socially worthless nature of most of their adherents.
No ordinary week for the PM 9:10pm on 26 Sep 2009 I have not posted on any BBC blogs for some while due to the mix of fanatacism and puerility that defines them.

I am moved to post again by the majority content of the posts on this board; I am coming to believe that there is now a party within the Conservative Party in a similar manner to the Militant Tendency once fellow travelling within the Labour Party.

The tone of controlled hysteria and level of vitriol are so similar to the character assassination rife in National Socialist publications of the earlt 1930's as to be almost uncanny.

A mix of fanatical nationalisn, xenophobia, anti-trade unionist and persistently personal attacks on essentially moderate national leaders or figures. Now just as then, shadowy figures such as the Barclay brothers support via the press and "underground" organisations the destabilisation of a nation.

When they have created a sufficiently heated and chaotic situation fed by the "easy target" headlines of the gutter press; who will they anoint as "The Great Leader"?

Surely not Cameron, as ineffectual as he is inoffensive.

Griffin needs a martyr moment, which could come, or is there some unknown (to us) primed and ready for investiture?

The last one went from petty criminal to leadership in 4 years.

Brown puts Trident on table 01:17am on 23 Sep 2009 Sub launched nuclear weapons are only necessary against "super power" adversaries who have the satellite capacity to require the use of such stealth.
As long as we retain the nuclear weapons to be deployed via stand off air to ground missiles or ship launched cruise missiles then this would be perfectly adequate and much less expensive than maintaining the sub fleet.

Potential future target countries such as Iran or Pakistan are unlikely in the medium term to acquire sufficient air defence capabilities to resist such assets.

Drop the subs, keep the nukes. Saves money and gives purpose to the new carriers.

Apologies are due as I actually agree with you about the direction of current BBC output, I should have emphasised that I meant a future ring fenced Public Service Broadcaster, i.e if the Beeb went; a smaller Leithian organisation.

"Live or die by its merits" is a principal I could normally agree with, but it would be the content that lived or died and "Merit" would be defined by popularity/ratings leading to ever more rapid "Dumbing down".
Only a ring fenced Public Service broadcaster could maintain output fit for viewing.

To paraphrase you, advertising revenue follows readership/ratings is exactly my point above, but an edited quote of yours "Interviewers opinion...often all that comes across" hits the nail on the head.
The loathsome (I have been everywhere, seen and know everything in the world) John Simpson epitomises this trait. Why broadcast a fact when I can say so much more with a sneer, seems to be his M.O. Any statement or rebuttal his pieces attract are delivered with the same old " They would say that wouldn't they" tone and facial tic. Give us the facts Simpson and we'll decide if its tosh.

When I was a young communist I believed the BBC to be the voice of fascism and the St James Clubland elite.
Now as I'm an older "don't know what", it enrages me with its liberal wooly minded, we're all guilty, brain dead social workerisms.

There is a test available on line somewhere that after about 200 questions rates you on an economic level between 1 and 10 with 1 being ultra communist and 10 being Capitalist, red in tooth and claw, let the babies starve. It also rates you on the same scale between 1 being a tree hugging gay rights "its ALL society's fault" to a 10 being a "where shall put the gas chambers?" position.

I would put the BEEB at a 6 for economic stance; being vaguely in favour of the capitalist status quo (but only when its nice)and a 3 on a social/behavioural scale being so "goody ,goody, anti-history and "All men are rapists" liberal.

As a disclosure I rated 3 economically and 8 socially. A bit Stalinist I suppose.

Are there any projections as to what a Min-BEEB would cost assuming 1 million people would pay for such a beast?
Victory or heist at the Oval? 01:12am on 24 Aug 2009 The game of cricket seems to be a series of several thousand events which when looked at individually have for a sporting event a very high level of go-nogo outcomes.

The surface is very variable and is allowed to deteriorate randomly, with a result that neither bowler nor batsman can know the object ball's precise final route or trajectory.

The very language of the game is full of risk; "edges, slips, glances".

While I do not ignore the fact that all concerned are attempting to strike the object ball with the bat or the stumps with ball, there is such a high degree of chance in the results obtained by these pursuits that the Napoleonic wish for lucky generals above all would seem apt for this game.

With these thoughts in mind I still congratulate the English on their victory, but would hope that the appallingly Australian manner of their last celebrations was a lapse in good taste that will not be repeated. My unstudied observations of the matches gave me a general feeling of greater application and intent from the colonial side and the English celebrants should do well to remember the various "decisions" and half-chances and their concomitant might have beens.
