Orange's 'unlimited' iPhone 3:01pm on 03 Nov 2009 I'm with Orange and was thinking about upgrading to an iPhone since my existing HTC TyTN II is getting a bit long in the tooth.

O2's T&Cs don't mention any restriction on "unlimited" at all, although they do restrict what you can use the phone for. But even with those restrictions 750MB is conservative.

My existing Orange account has 3GB available, and my 3G dongle has 30GB/month! What's with limiting a phone to 750MB when its major selling point is always-on connectivity?

I will be waiting for Orange to change their limit.

And yes, using unlimited* with an asterisk should be outlawed. Unlimited up to 750MB is not unlimited.
Top G-man in Phishing scam 5:32pm on 19 Oct 2009 I don't have internet banking, so I can be certain that any phishing emails are phishing. But surely if my bank wanted to get in touch with me they would either write a letter or put a message on the screen once I had logged in. One thing they wouldn't do is send an email!

Perhaps banks should put a large message on their landing page saying that they don't send emails, and if it looks like they have then it's a fake. Would that make any difference in educating users?

On the rare occasion when I have answered a phone call which was probably from a bank (0845 numbers go to the answerphone usually) I've never confirmed any details. I explain to the person on the other end that I've no idea who they are and I won't give any personal information to them, whereupon they do get quite cross. All good fun.

Tengsted: There's no discrimination for Opera users, although there is for Opera Mini. See #131/132. Actually, Steve could pass #132 to his technical bods. Or even offer a job to some of us who do know what we're doing. It certainly shouldn't take four months to get something working.

Who will ride Google's Wave? 1:28pm on 30 Sep 2009 I know the news article isn't yours, but http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8280864.stm contains an error, which is almost repeated in the blog. Wave was announced and demonstrated at the Google Developer Day at Wembley Stadium [yes, there is only one Wembley Stadium] last September, not May. I was there: I agree Lars and Jens are pathological optimists, but it does stand at least a chance of success in collaborative environments.

You know nothing of justice. Read Shakespeare, in particular Portia's speech to Shylock in Act 4, Scene 1 of The Merchant of Venice. We have known for 300 years that justice is always to be tempered with mercy, and the US would do well to remember that.

Pic of the Day: Mixed Characters 00:23am on 12 Aug 2009 Yes, this is good! :-) No more little diamond-shaped question-marks to interpret in Firefox. I'm not sure about the "significant amount" of technical work -- although I do realise that there will have been testing and database backups and reconfigurations to do -- but the result is definitely an "At last" sigh. Great.

Now, could you reverse the change which means that I appear as "you" in the blogs, please? (Actually I haven't seen any official comment about that change; it just happened. All the comments I have seen have been negative, unfortunately)
