Blood, guts and old-fashioned Six Nations thunder 2:19pm on 15 Feb 2009 For years fans of other countries complained about referees allowing the likes of Dallaglio, Back and Hill to get away with murder at the breakdown. Now the boot is on the other foot and England fans are complaining. You should all just grow up and take the ups and downs as they come. Wales deserved to win yesterday, the winning margin was about right for the match. That's it.

It's not the oil companies making a killing on petrol, it's the government. Taxes account for by far the largest part of the price you pay at the pump (between 60 and 70p I believe), margins for the oil companies and retailers are not that great. Oil companies make more of their profits elsewhere.

Re: windfall taxes I'll repeat a post I made a couple of days ago:

1) Who are the "city workers" you are talking about? Board members, senior management, traders, stockbrokers, mortgage advisers, back office clerks, where do you draw the line? It's a ridiculous catch-all term.

2) Do you really think that all of the money paid to these individuals over the last 10 years has been salted away, or is it just possible that a lot of it was recycled into the economy?

3) Are you willing to pay back the money you have earned over the last ten years as a result of being the car salesman that sold the city worker a nice Porsche, or the waiter in the top-class restaurant who only had a job because the city workers used to pay the extortionate prices there, or the architect who designed new offices for the city workers, or the builder who built them, or the person who made money in buy-to lets because the city worker was willing (legally) to lend him money, or indeed the person who made money on selling their house during the house price bubble allegedly caused by those city workers?

4) If not, why not? You have profited from the money the city workers have put back into the economy, you should also share the pain.

5) Do you think that it's just possible that you might concede that things are a little more complicated than they appear to be in your blinkered view of the world?

Great expectations weigh heavily on Wales 5:20pm on 09 Nov 2008 To Saffaview. Not disagreeing with your overall point, but this was Wales' first international since the summer in SA, so from an international point of view they have had a longer gap than SA. The players have, admittedly, been playing at club level, but only had six days together prior to the match yesterday.
HBOS's massive u-turn 12:46pm on 29 Apr 2008 In response to post 10, if you read the announcement you'l see that the rights issue is fully underwritten, as was that of RBS. Therefore HBOS is guaranteed the money - the risk is now with the underwriters (the question of whether underwriters ever actually take any risk as they generally won't underwrite unless they're sure that the issue will be successful is a different discussion...)
