Got to pick you up on that one mate - when we (Reading) won it we finished with 106 points and totally blew everyone else out of the water. But I get your point, it is traditionally a tight division and certainly this year it will go right to the wire.

I also agree about Swansea - they fully deserved to beat us and they play some great football. Not sure how they would fair in the Premier League but they would have the 'only Welsh team in the top flight' tag to drum up some extra support/resources. Just hope they keep hold of their gaffer!
Reading show there's life after relegation 09:36am on 11 Feb 2009 Great to see so many positive comments, I always suspected we were most fans' second club when we were in the top flight and its good to see that Coppell and the boys are still getting the respect they deserve even though we are outside the Premier League.

Madjeski and Hammond have been absolutely vital in getting us to where we are today. I remember watching Hammond play for us at Elm Park (not the greatest keeper but his high pitched squeals never failed to entertain the Tilehurst Road End) and he has been instrumental in getting one of the countries oldest clubs out of the mire of lower league football. A lot of people wrongly accuse RFC of having no history, but we have been around since 1871 (albeit successful only in the last 10-15 years, unles you count the Simod Cup win in '88)

We should go up (I don't really care if we win the thing, as long as we are promoted that'll do me) and I think Brum have a strong enough squad to take second, with Cardiff or Swansea winning the playoffs. Basically anyone but Wolves and I'll be happy!

The Kovac brothers are 36 and 34 respectively, Simunic is 30, and the overall average age has to be about 28 - 29. I agree about the red card though; I am sure the ref saw the blood and panicked.

Best performance since Holland in '96 (yes I remember Germany in '01 but don't forget we looked pretty shaky at times in that game (despite the scoreline) and as a complete team performance I still think the Holland game edged it) but lets not get carried away. Beat Kazakhstan and Belarus next month and then see where we are after Ukraine in April.
UK Olympic team spells danger for Scotland 08:59am on 28 Aug 2008 KillieJimbo - I think you have highlighted the main difference between English and Scottish football/sports fans with your comments about booing English teams and wanting us to lose. As an avid football fan I always want to see British teams do well in Europe (even if it is usually just Rangers or Celtic), and I will always want the Scots, Welsh, and N. Irish to do well in the International arena.
This probably comes from the fact that, although geographically you may be right, in practice you are not our 'closest' rivals and as such you are not a threat.
As it happens I don't think there should be a GB team at the 2012 Olympics because there is obviously a risk that Blatter and FIFA will go back on their word and I wouldn't want see the smaller nations without representation, but to say that you can cheer Lewis Hamilton (an Englishman) and Rebecca Adlington (again English), whilst at the same time booing a GB football team, is quite clearly double standards.
Can Birmingham, Reading and Derby bounce back? 09:13am on 07 Aug 2008 Trufflenewt - Interested to hear why you think Steve Coppell doesn't have the players, considering it looks like we will only lose a couple this summer. But to be honest I think if we fail to go back up this season I will start to worry - I can't see Hunt, Doyle, Lita et al (even Coppell?) staying unless we go straight back up.

Birmingham to do well, but I can't see Derby doing much this year - they only scraped into the PL in the first place, and a year of getting hammered week in, week out must have taken it's toll surely?
China v USA - who will win this blockbuster battle of the superpowers? 1:35pm on 06 Aug 2008 Can anyone tell me what the phrase "citius, altius, fortius" means? When I put it into an online translator it came out as "speedily, domestic fattened bird, perhaps". Not too sure what that has to do with the Olympics (unless you're referring to a few of the more 'wholesome' female shot putters)?
