Say hello, Wave... goodbye? 11:55am on 09 Oct 2009 It's also worth noting that I made a few wavelets that never made it into the Wave - I've been out and about and Wave let me make various edits but has refused to sync them - so I don't thinkRory got to see my comment that:

"I'm finding the user interface rich to the point of fatuousness - everything seems to do something, but it's not clear what until you click it, and that may be too late. I also feel that my laptop screen is just too small - it needs a 24" screen to spread out a bit, otherwise it's hard to retain a sense of the conceptual space."

A New Media inauguration? 07:30am on 20 Jan 2009 It won't only be a TV event for couch potatoes, though. In common with many other people I'm going along to watch it on a big screen with a crowd of others, so that we can share the experience and have a drink together. So I'll be heading off to Cambridge Guildhall this afternoon instead of turning on the tv...
An apology (in fact several) 10:03am on 24 Oct 2008 Do you use Outlook/Exchange to read BBC email from home? They can be real data hogs, constantly sending status updates and stuff back and forth even when there aren't any emails... maybe you need to monitor your network traffic and report back!
Twitter and the China earthquake 09:28am on 12 May 2008 I'm with Rachel - unverified details of breaking events are important and useful but not the same as the work of a reporter or someone we already have a relationship of trust with (NB this doesn't mean a 'professional'). Testimony matters, but we shouldn't see it as more than a starting point for understanding something.

Can a charity make file-sharing taboo? 8:31pm on 30 Apr 2008 It would be helpful if people read the leaflet before commenting - it's available to download at http://www.childnet.com/music/index.html - since it talks about fair use, explains that p2p is perfectly legal but can be used to copy unlicensed content, mentions Creative Commons and discusses places to get legitimate music from bands who are happy to share it.

I know because I helped to write it.
Twitter at the tipping point 10:16am on 19 Apr 2008 I think you're right that Twitter itself will find it hard to make money from advertising - if it goes down the intrusive Facebook path or starts reading or tweets to target stuff then we'll just move on now (I'm in your hardcore group of techie types). But they could sell the technology into firms - Twitter's a lot nicer for group working and internal comms than most of the IM services out there - or sell to other social networks as an embedded part of the service. Not all income comes from advertising, after all....
