Will he or won't he? 10:48am on 29 Sep 2009 If these debates are to take place, there should be a series of debates between party spokesmen on all major topics: foreign affairs, home affairs, economy etc, etc. If debate is limited to the party leaders, then it will be short on substance, and take us one step closer to the Presidential system of government that Mrs Thatcher and Mr Blair have pushed us towards.

He failed to lead 2:59pm on 19 May 2009 Surely it is time for a major change to the position of speaker. As things stand, the Speaker's constituents are effectively disenfranchised, as they are not adequately represented in parliament. An alternative would be for a respected former MP to be selected, or for the seat to become vacant upon election of the Speaker, so that the Speaker is no longer expected to represent a constituency.

Next Year: Andy Murray, after winning his first Grand Slam title.
Sports Personality shortlist announced 2:17pm on 02 Dec 2008 Unfortunately, the cycling vote is sure to be split, allowing Hamilton to win.

Personally, I believe it should be a close call between Chris Hoy and Nicole Cook.

Hoy won 1km time trial gold in Athens. He was then forced to switch events because the 1km was dropped - so he won 3 golds in his new events.

Nicole Cooke became the first cyclist, man or woman, to hold World and Olympic Road Race titles at the same time.

I wish Hamilton all the best, but he cannot match these two (or, for that matter, Ainsley, Addlington, Romero, Pendleton, Shane Williams...)
