Graham Gooch's England ratings 10:47am on 12 Aug 2008 Strauss 5. only 1 big score

Cook 7. consistently got in, needs a century though

Vaughan 4. underperformed as a batsman and, for once, as a captain.

Pietersen 9. england would be lost without him.

Bell 7. needs to keep his concentration to be a great batsman.

Collingwood 6. being dropped seemed to help him, hope his form has returned for good altough possibly a fringe player now.

Flintoff 8. superb return with the ball, fairly useful with the bat too, another one in need of a big score.

Ambrose 5. cant fault his glove work or his commitment playing through pain. needs to bat at 8 if to stay in team.

Broad 6. bowled well last test but otherwise lacking. looks a great lower order batsman though.

Anderson 8. top wicket taker, and bowled superbly in spells. along with flintoff englands best bowler.

Panesar 5. wickets taken negated by the abysmal displays in the field and the lack of variation. not his best series, could do with a rest but who would replace him?

Harmison 8. like both collingwood and broad, being left out has done him the world of good. hass come back looking really fresh.

Pattinson 5. Not his fault he was picked, did the best he could
Five batsmen not enough for England 1:10pm on 22 Jul 2008 i think there are a number of thingds need taking into consideration

broad's job in the team is a bowler. he has under performed in this role. if he is to be selected primerily as a batsman who bowls then other options in that role need to be considered.

simon jones, anderson and sidebottom are all similar bowlers. simon jones has a little extra up his sleeve, anderson is the strongest batter and fielder so if all 3 dont fit in the side it is sidebottom that should miss out

Panesar is englands best spinner by a country mile but not every pitch requires spin as an option

In terms of a captain vaughen is the best man for the job, his batting will surely return at some point

From Eastlands to La-la Land 8:06pm on 20 Jul 2008 it amuses me how many people have read this article, found it to be a waste of their time and then spent more time writing abuot hoe much of a waste of time reading this article, but not writing about it, actually was.....

I disagree with a couple of ratings but i wont accept a slur on his character.

Flintoff casts shadow on England 11:15pm on 09 Jul 2008 flintoffs return, for me has to be in place of a bowler, we simply dont need an extra one so should protect the batting line up

simon jones is a must if he's fit and as a master of swing needs to replace a likewise bowler

i cannot see a reason why owais shah has been overlooked again

both cook and strauss need good series strauss may have peformed against nz but they are a weak test side

not an issue yet but if the wk is at 8 then we should be picking the best gloveman ie ambrose or foster or read. at 7 the emphasis should be on batting ie prior or mustard
