The reality is that no young player has had any interest in spin-bowling because they knew that they would never break into the test team with Warney in it. Unfortunately, those 700 wickets of Warneys will have to make do for the next decade because I cant see more than a handful of wickets falling to Aussie spinners during the next 4 Ashes series. The Aussie selectors were short-sighted and they must now pay the price.

No, it doesn’t, it needs to concentrate on producing test players because that is what the English cricket fan wants above all else. Only a total idiot would think otherwise, which brings me on to my second point: I cannot believe that licence-fee money is paid to Mr Bose for this sort of vacuous, one-sided, out of touch article which appears to have been written by someone who has just finished primary school.

His biggest “achievement” by a long, long distance, was to be in the same team as Warne and McGrath.

Arrogant, boorish, hypocritical and over-rated - whenever he came up against a quality quick (Ambrose, Donald, Flintoff, Steyn, etc) he was found wanting.

He played in 13 innings against the Windies before Courtney Walsh retired following Curtly of course and in 8 of them he scored 30 or less, and against the South Africans while Donald was still playing, it was 8 from 12.

I'm sure the same would have been the case if Australia had faced Akhtar in Pakistan and I think his performances against Freddie and Steyn are still fresh enough in the mind to not worry about those stats.

That said, I am sorry to see him go, I was looking forward to seeing him dragging his knuckles off the field with less than 10 on the board for Australia several times this summer.

I'll remember him as a flat-track bully who dished it out for 15 years and as soon as the Indians gave some back, went running to teacher.
Beware a wounded Australia 2:02pm on 10 Nov 2008 The England Lions could beat this Australian team. I would honestly not be surprised if the Kiwis managed to get a draw in their upcoming home series against the Baggy Greens. England will be asking a lot of questions next summer, particularly the bowlers, and I think the Aussies will be crushed 5-0 (would be 4-0 if Old Trafford still got a test!).
Beware a wounded Australia 12:55pm on 10 Nov 2008 I agree with the earlier posters: we should be weary of a beaten Aussie side which contains Warne and McGrath, but not one without them? This Australian side is heading the same way as the West Indies did after Courtney and Curtly hung up their boots. England should have nothing to be afraid of last summer apart from the weather.
