Benitez on the brink? 5:15pm on 05 Nov 2009 Liverpool will qualify under rule 118 sub para 19......if a team has won the Champions league 5 or more times in the last century AND finish third in their group games, then 'that' team will proceed to the next stage of the competition at the expense of the team with the lowest Eufa coefficient.
Don't think it could happen? Remember 2005?
The day Lee Dixon took the tube to Highbury 1:56pm on 22 Oct 2009 To adapt a boxing phrase - Mr Wenger is, in my opinion the greatest pound for pound manager of his generation. I know that he has not won as much as SAF, and does not self publicize like Jose, but imagine what he'd acieve if he had their budgets.
They are great managers all, but if I had to choose any manager for my club it would be Arsene Wenger. Mind you I support Everton, and we are more than happy with David Moyes. But the style of the Invinceables year was sublime, and they never quite received the acclaim they richly deserved.
Elaenor, it is refreshing to be able to comment positively on a football figure, rather than some of the contrived controversy (sometimes fun )of the more regular bloggers.

Mr Capello must use Gerrard as a sub only.
Before there is an avalanche of posts from outraged Stevie G fans, please let me explain.
Gerrard is an excellent player of top quality, and influences LFC's performance significantly over the seasons in the Prem. Because he is so influential at LFC, he has a tendency to 'hog' the ball and try to play (although this aspect has improved) a hollywood pass too often, and so possession is lost.
In more demanding international games, particularly against the top teams, his individual talents and skill are not sufficient to make a significant impression. He needs to change his mindset and be more of a team player at this level. There is no doubt of his talent. I think Mr Capello, may be aware of this situation, as Gerrard's placs in the national side was was maybe uncertain.
Time and time again we have seen England struggle against so called 'inferior' opposition', maybe these opponents play within their limitations and are difficult to beat.
Can Gerrard be reprogrammed to tailor his game for international duty, will his ego prevent a revision?
Whatever happens over the coming months, I don't think we can expect Gerrards comparatively disappointing form at international level to change.
He is a good player, no doubt, but he must ensure that he does not lose possession, and employ greater judgement in his decisions. He is playing with much better players than at LFC (apart fron Fernando and Yossi), despite what Rafa may think. He needs to show them the respect their abilities demand.
I think Mr Capello is on the case.

MOTD sweep update 4:52pm on 07 Oct 2009 #17 Ta for the positive comment. By 'more recent knowledge', I mean that Lee D (among others)has had more recent exposure to and practical experience of the physical demands on, tactics played, and is more current (among others) than say Hansen/Lawrence, who appear to at times patronise the audience. H & L (among others)are expert, no doubt, but I feel that they have by now exhausted everything they have to say. Just my take on MOTD just now.
PS I am not ageist by the way, for instance Arlene should still be there on the dance show.

Ignore the negative posts, your sweep could just be the solution to freshening up MOTD. It does not surprise me that Lee D is top pundit, his knowlegde is more recent than the the rest. I want you to take this a stage further and the least successful pundit gets relegated and a more recent pundit arrives for the new season. I now that rewards/penalties for results is a new concept at theBeeb, buuuut it could just sort out the weakest links.
