Generals as politicians - lessons from history 9:54pm on 07 Oct 2009 When you say, "makes a great many people uncomfortable", what you really mean is it 'makes us left wingers and Labour supporters at the BBC uncomfortable'. You are trying to create a problem where none exists, purely for your own political gain, making you little better than those in the Labour government that have attempted to smear the general.

More humiliation for bankers 12:52pm on 11 Feb 2009 Gordon Brown boasted that there are more people in prison now than in 1997! Is that a good thing?! Surely that is because there are more crimes, and more people committing crimes (rising serious crime rate and rising population).

Gordon Brown is getting worse and worse at PMQs, every answer is an irrelevant attack on 1980s/90s Tories. It just sounds hollow coming from the most dishonest PM in the history of the title.
A week of industrial strikes and unrest 2:37pm on 06 Feb 2009 This whole Blair-Obama thing is a joke. I hate it when Democrats praise Labour members. The Democrats know nothing about our politics, the may often think they do, but they just don't get it. Labour are far more left wing than the Democrats will ever be (even with Obama). Blair has not done a single thing worthy of praise since being PM, he is not a great leader, he is a poser. All he has done is pose and that is all he is doing now. He and Obama are not great friends, they barely know each other. The Democrats should be more careful when praising the domestic policies of our political parties, especially one that is falling apart like Labour. When it comes to Blair, all he did for America was help them with their insane war, one which Obama was against!
After the partying, it's time to govern 01:24am on 22 Jan 2009 PMQs today was plain demented. To virtually every question asked, Gordon Brown desperately sought to link himself with Obama. It was utterly pathetic. Does he really think by saying "Obama" as many times as he can that good will for Obama will transfer to him? All that he achieved was to look increasingly weak and feeble. Pathetic is the only word for it.

After all these years of wasted money, economic mismanagement, scandal, data loss through failed security, population explosion, dodgy wars, rising violent crime, now rising child poverty, failing hospitals, congestion, crumbling services, reduced military, betraying the armed forces, removal of civil liberties, politicising the police, assaults on our democracy and creation of extreme debt, why would any said person vote for the Labour Party ever again? Unless of course, they were bought with tax payers money.

How much longer will members of the public and media be in denial over these simple, documented facts? And this is just the short version of the list!
Be careful what you wish for ... 00:20am on 10 Dec 2008 The problem is that people tend to get thier information from one source, and since the BBC and Sky are able to reach out to most people ( through their rolling news channels), most people limit themselves to misleading information. The difference in reporting styles between coverage of the Conservatives and Labour is huge. Very little effort is made to report facts when they are not in favour of the Labour Party/ Government, and when something is not in the Conservatives' interest, a single event is replayed again and again. Take for example the so-called "Greengate" affair, the Labour Government has repeatedly tried to supress debate of an issue that involves Parliament being able to hold government to account. In other words, trying to supress the public's fundamental right to democratic process. But the BBC will not say this, instead they briefly allow an opposition MP to mention it, and then they proceed to repeat the Government's straw-man arguments to counter it. They then ask why the MPs are devoting so much time to this when most people care more about the economy. My argument is that most people care more about the economy than their basic freedoms because organisations like the BBC, and to a very slightly lesser extent, Sky News, convince them that that's what they should care about. The agenda is set largely by the media.

Anyone that has actually listened to a Tory speech will know that no proposal to "do nothing" has ever been made. Labour is expected set up this straw-man, but should the BBC be willfully carrying it on? The BBC management know that the Conservatives have not suggested doing nothing, that is a fact, so why do they not report that fact for the sake of those who have never paid attention to a Conservative speech on the economy? The BBC is publicly funded and therefore should remain unbiased, instead it uses language and headlines, and puts forward incomplete pictures that create a massive bias in favour of the Labour Party. A clear example is the way the BBC reported the idea of Brown the economic super hero, but did little to put forward the opposing view point. It was reported by the BBC that the notion of saviour Brown was widespread, when in fact this is bogus.

It is against this backdrop that one should view the opinion polls. The unjust and morally bankrupt pro Labour bias in the media (most influentially the BBC) combined with Labour using tax payers money to attempt to gain votes, leaves the Conservative Party with a massive up hill struggle. On a level playing field, Labour would be reduced to the popularity of a fringe party, based on its record so far.

For Vince Cable to jump on the "do nothing" straw-man band wagon is insane. Whilst the Lib Dems are becoming more left wing than Labour in many respects, they also want to win more seats. If the Tories and Lib Dems could avoid unfounded attacks against each other and whilst disagreeing on various issues, work together to bring down the Labour government, both parties would reap the rewards at the next election. Labour would be devestated, the Conservatives would have a strong majority for it's first term, and the Liberals would be thrust into a good second place. That would be a fantastic result for the Lib Dems. Obviously each party would have to fight for a seat, but the Lib Dems and the Tories should wait until an election is called to do that. By reshaping the political landscape in this way, both parties would also be doing the best by their supporters and constituents.

I do not know if anyone from the show reads these comments but if they do, it might be interesting to raise some of these issues with your future guests.
