York City need Cup cash more than giantkilling glory 1:26pm on 31 Dec 2009 Exeter City fan here. May I just say from first hand experience it seems York are in a strong position to rise back into the Football League again. A few years back when we were relegated to the conference, staring bankruptcy in the face, and wondering what we could do to correct years of decline and mis-management, through the use of the clubs trust we managed to sensibly consolidate our position and slowly build for the future in a sensible manner rather than going gung-ho at it and risking living beyond our means.

Sensible stewardship, as is being demonstrated by McGill at York is crucial. It may take a few years (we spent five in the conference), but by slowly building a more sustainable assault great things can be achieved and maintained, as we have demonstrated by now reaching League One just six years after our relegation! Admittedly you need a bit of luck along the way (we had a plum FA Cup tie at Old Trafford which wiped out most of our debts, and recently have sold three young prospects to higher level clubs all for six figure sums) but it is more than just possible using this sensible long term approach, and from what I can gather Exeter City FC hasnt been in such a healthy state since the early 90's.

So I guess all I'm trying to say is well done McGill, you are doing things the right way, and good luck to you. Keep the faith York fans!

Uh-oh - that's torn it 09:47am on 19 Jun 2009 I'm an amteur athlete. After tearing my hamstring in a south of england championship race and feeling rather down about it, the physio who treated me that day said something that has always stuck in my mind: "Don't worry about it too much, there will always be someone in a far worse state than yourself". That did pick my spirits up significantly and subsequent injury setbacks havent been so dis-heartening since then.
That said, you could argue that this approach is the complete opposite of Macey's where doing everything is everything!
What do you think of the fixtures list? 1:36pm on 17 Jun 2009 It's a pity to see there will be no 'Grand Slam' sunday this time out, where the Big Four all play one of the other Big Four teams on the same day. That was a great spectacle a couple of seasons ago.
That said, the weekends that feature both the Merseyside derby and Arsenal v Chelsea should be good.

Exeter City (my team) open with a trip to Leeds, followed by a home fixture against Norwich, which is a nice welcome to League One following our promotion. Odd to think that this time just two years ago we were scouring our conference fixtures containing the likes of Farsley Celtic and Tamworth (no dis-resepect meant to those teams, just revelling in how far we have come).

A few years ago me and a mate embarked upon a random trip from Bristol to Huddersfield to see the Terriers take on Luton Town in a rather eventful 1-1 draw at the impressive Galpharm Stadium.

We weren't holding too many expectations for Huddersfield as a town but our pre-conceptions were soon corrected. A friendly and compact town proved lots of fun for the evening after the game. Lots of fun was had in the Rat and Ratchet, Yates' and some other bar I cant remember the name of. Then there was some rather cheesy but good natured discotheque called Jumpin' Jacks, but disapointingly I've heard a rumour it has since closed down.

I would recommend to anyone to visit as many 'random' grounds/towns as possible as some very novel times can be had (except Leigh - it's a dive!).
