Lagging no more? 1:15pm on 16 Dec 2009 A further point on these misguided Government spun figures. I understand that 16 & 17 year olds (i.e last summers school leavers) can't claim JSA until they're 18?
Lagging no more? 1:00pm on 16 Dec 2009 First mistake you're making here is believing this Governments figures! If this lot told me night followed day I'd go outside and check. How long can claimants claim Job Seekers Allowance for? I believe this is the benefit that the unemployment figures are based on? Assuming it's six months, how are those that claimed for six months but moved onto "other benefits" counted? Whatever the figure this government gives, you can bet it's a least double. Is their figure based on those "looking for work"? Because let's face it they have created such a benefits culture that at least 4 million are not interested in working ever. It's just have more kids, get more benefits, get a bigger house etc

Would they have agreed to, or have been so keen to, take over HBOS if they had?

If they did know and still took it on they should be out of work.
The real debate has scarcely begun 8:48pm on 10 Nov 2009 I am no fan of Gordon Brown or his Government, but I am somewhat angry at this.

This stinks of a stitch up job by the Sun. Why was his telephone call to Mrs Janes recorded without his permission?

This is a non-political story, Gordon Brown can be criticised for many things but the standard of his hand writing and spelling should not be one of them. I think most fair minded people will see that and that this ploy by the Sun may well back fire.

I have a question that I've been pondering over in my mind for the past few days, I have approx 11000 Lloyds shares, should I take up the upcoming rights issue, reported to be in the region of 2-1 at circa £0.35p-£0.40p?

Big choices 4:18pm on 15 Sep 2009 Does anyone in the whole country believe a single word that the PM utters? Surely not. The current speaches and all those coming up over the next few months are all just political manouvering in the hope of saving his own job and skin. I think twelve years of spin and spin and more spin is about to catch up with this government and they could well be sidelined for a generation. No doubt Brown and co will find employment with one or two of the banks they (we) bailed out. I'm not convinced the current crop of Tories are much better but surely the people of this country have had enough of the spin, table thumping, half truths and not to mention total incompetancy from this Labour crowd?
Is Owen still worth a gamble? 5:21pm on 15 Jun 2009 It's clear to anyone who knows, he's only interested in his horses now, both backing them and training them. Fancies himself as the next Mick Channon, he's bought up half of Cheshire to fit his new racing stables in. No way will he continue in the game once he packs up playing, he'll concentrate on his first love, the Gee Gees. He's been taking football supporters for a ride for years, picking up £5-£6 million a year to pay for his next career and future security.

Few will doubt your words on spin, but come on, when it comes to lies you friend dear old Gordon is in a league of his own. Maybe it's not lies maybe he's just in total denial. Having achieved what he sees as his destiny by whatever means possible, he will not exit the doors of No 10 easily. I can just picture it now, the morning after next years general election, Labour beaten out of sight but with a few seats left to be counted, he gets himself on the TV and proclaims:

"What I think the people of Britain want is for me to get on with job of sorting the economy and MPs expenses, I am the best man for job, in fact I am the only man for job"

Every election defeat of this government is followed by the usual list of reasons, recession, protest vote, MPs expenses etc, I laughed to myself last night when I heard the old chestnut "We must listen to the voters and learn and act", didn't they say 2,3 & 4 years ago. If they were listening to the voters they would have resigned by now.

NO GORDON the people don't want you to get on with job, if you had ever bothered listening to the people, you would have realised and ACCEPTED that ever since Crewe & Nantwich and Glasgow East and pretty much every chance the voters have had since, what they really really want is for you to go.
No nudges, no winks 08:30am on 05 Jun 2009 I watched this unfold last night for a couple of hours. 10pm the announcement is made, between 10pm and 11.30pm all the politco journos are getting their face on the tv telling us that this is different, this is "the beginning of the end for Brown" etc etc, by midnight the orchastrated Downing St response was kicking in and everyone was saying that Purnell is wrong and Gordon is the right man etc etc. Did you notice how a lot of them were reported to have said the same thing, word for word (do you think they were all sent the same script?)

Like most of the people in the UK at present, I think politicians are in it for themselves full stop. They can come out with all the election time speaches they want about "serving the people" etc, how stupid do they really think we are? They are all in it for themselves and last night Labour cabinet ministers and MPs had a decision, and it was simple:

1. Be honest, get Brown out (I haven't got enough room to type all the reasons he shouldn't have been PM in the first place), go to the country, probably lose my Job as a MP definately lose my Cabinet post (where applicable)

2. Tow the Party Line, shut up and suffer, pick up another 12 months wages.

Guess what personal greed won again over "serving the people".
