did anyone watch ‘Newsnight’ last night, their report explains why Jackie Smith does not have to pay anything back, it is because her case was dealt with by a different body, and the panel that had final decision on her fate was originally made up with, 3 conservatives, 3 lib dems, and 6 labour mps. the decision was taken on a day when the conservative and lib dems mps were ‘NOT’ available, so the decision that she didnt have to pay and would only have to apologise was made by labour mps. says it all really.
also, you nick, labour and the MSM appear to be spouting on about mortgages, hoping that the tories will come off worse in this scenario, this is a non story, unless it is in regards with people that have deliberatley misled, misused (flipping), blatantly claimed expenses for mortgages that belong to their spouses, or fully paid mortgages, claimed for capital and or more than their actual intrest,(as appears Cameron did to the tune of £200 odd, but he did pay it back immediatley when it was discovered). as Legg states MPs are entitled to claim upto the maximum allowed for intrest payments, intrest payments that exceed that amount should not be paid by the public purse, i also believe each individual MP should post their letter from Legg on their web sites, so their constituants can make informed decisions when it comes to voting, people should not rely on MSM to formulate their decision as they will always try to sway the public to their way of thinking, FACTs FACTs and more FACTs please on all of them whether Tory labour Lib Dems if they have troughed and are unrepentent, they should go, this only applies to none criminal activity, those that are blatant liers should be prosecuted.

2. The Tories can rebrand all they like but it is impossible for them to rebrand themselves as the 'party of the poor'. No sane person would believe this to be true.

unlike the nulabour party who did a real good job of being the 'party of the rich' they forgot about the poor.

big difference Tories are for all whether rich or poor,
nu labour are just for themselves, they want to use the poor to cause a division.

i write nu labour because at least back in the day old labour were genuinely for the working/under class, and were principled in their division.

It is not play, it is life, i imagine, if he hadn't mentioned his son people like you would probably criticise him for showing no emotion or saying he got over that quickly or something equally derogative, what you seem unable to comprehend is this is a man that wants to be the PM of our country, I/we need to see and know as much as possible, what it is that drives him, his personality, what he is intellectually, emotionally and physically capable of.
why i am bothering to respond to pond life i dont know. nope i am not a very compassionate conservative in this case.

1, If you watched George Osbourne speech in full, he said clearly, men 2016, women 2020... next day was trying to explain to journo's who are hard of hearing.

2, George Osbourne made it clear he did not want to keep the 50% tax as it will be a deterrent to growth, but because 'we are all in this together' felt it would not be right to reduce tax whilst he is asking the public sector above £18,000 to take a pay freeze for 1 year. could you imagine the uproar, only for the rich yadiyadiyadi.

3, George Osbourne made it clear, that he was giving a sample of what needs to be done, but that many 10's of £1000's will have to be found through, cutting ID cards, data bases, whitehall etcetc. long hard task eh.

4, yep i agree, but at least both Osbourne and Cameron have pledged the right noises for our armed services in theatre, seems they're on the right track, especially with General Dannett.

And what i do like about Tory supporters/voters they are task masters, they will criticise and they wont let their party get away with bullsh*t, unlike labour's lot.
It wasn't the strongest of speeches i agree, but trust me it has really appealed to women in particular (none socialist of course ;o)), it was known beforehand that he would not be talking in depth policies, as the relevant shadow ministers throughout the conference have done that, it was more a showcase of tory values, I think.

still there still 6mths to go i think, i hope, people's common sense will prevail.
Conferences: Not what they used to be 4:18pm on 08 Oct 2009 OT just read this on guido, i think it is important that people are able to see the truth, something our government, and our mainstream media are failing to give us, time to take into our own hands, and help get the soldiers message out there.

In July, British soldiers and I boarded a CH-47 helicopter at Camp Bastion for the flight to FOB Jackson at Sangin where fighting is brutal. The helicopter was so stuffed with men, gear and supplies that the cargo was not even strapped down. We steadied the long stack with our hands and prayed that the pilots not begin flying violent evasive maneuvers. The tail gunner partially lifted the ramp to prevent bundles from tumbling into the skies, and that was it for securing the bundles. Just a week before, a giant MI-26 helicopter was shot down on final approach to this same landing zone. All aboard died in flames, as did two children on the ground.

This is, interestingly, the same landing zone where I would make the photos for “The Kopp-Etchells Effect” dispatch, which was published in many languages around the world. Many readers have weighed in with ideas about the causes of the glow. Some say the cause is St Elmo’s fire or the triboelectric effect, or perhaps the piezoelectric effect. The actual cause does not seem to be surely known, according to J. Gordon Leishman, D.Sc.(Eng.), Ph.D., F.R.Ae.S., Minta Martin Professor of Engineering, Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Maryland. I don’t know. Maybe it’s caused by angels. It definitely is beautiful.

We landed and British Soldiers from “2 Rifles” swarmed in to help unload cargo. Since I made this photo, at least two British CH-47s have been lost in combat operations, one of which was just north of here.

We need more gear and more forces now. We can outfight these enemies and we can win the war, but at this rate a favorable outcome is difficult to imagine. This war shows signs that it will become more intense than Iraq at its peak. As with my twelve dispatches from 2006 warning that we were losing this war, the warnings over the past couple of years seem to be falling on incredulous ears. We will lose the war unless we get more troops and more gear soon.

This weekend we lost eight more soldiers in a firefight. I learned about it while they were still fighting, but did not report it until just before the media broke the story the next day. Still unreported, to my knowledge, sources tell me that FOB Keating was destroyed and that troops were under siege for up to 24 hours before Air Force Para-rescue got them out. (Subject to confirmation.) The fighting will only intensify. We can beat these guys, but not under current conditions.

The last two missions I did with British 2 Rifles ended in firefights. Due to bandwidth difficulties, only a small part of the video was uploaded. Those two firefights were melded into one short video. These are just typical hum-drum day-in day-out missions, nothing like what happened this weekend in Nuristan.

Thankyou for your concern, as requested here's my post for your peace of mind that i'm 'ok',
Indeed it may have been a strange post, it was written out of frustration, whilst watching newsnight, i was hoping to see a debate/opinion, for and against, re George Osbourne's speech, instead, it appeared to be about, toffs, bullingdon, champagne, etc, each trying to out do each other with snide personal remarks, not a sensible comment between them.
To me there are real choices the we have to make, and it would help if our public broadcaster presented the facts as they are, with sensible people concentrating on the facts, whether, for or against.
Where someone goes to school, what groups they were in in their youth (i was a biker/rocker lol) does not matter a hoot or at least it shouldn't.
So i apologise if i caused you concern Saga, but these are very trying times ;o)
