My World Twenty20 predictions 8:11pm on 17 Jun 2009 I've backed Sri Lanka since early in the first stage. They have everything in their team : exhilarating batsmen, clever batsmen, top quality fast bowling, amazing spinners, superb & skilful fielding.

Re the blog, why the mention of Stanford? Typically BBC viewpoint of looking back at negatives amongst what should be looking forward positively at the squad announcement.

I, too, am unsure about how the Ireland/England selection works. It's the same when a player plays County cricket, like Porterfield at Gloucestershire who is now 'cup tied' in the Friends Provident yet may not play in it again this season for Gloucs as he's not first choice.
Review of the week 8:36pm on 26 Mar 2009 My local team, Westbury Utd of the Toolstation Western League (non-league football is the best!) have a 'Prat Of The Week' outfit which is a frilly white ladies' dress.

One of the players/management get the privelege (*cough*) of wearing it after each match if they're deemed to be the 'prat of the day'.

Most recent have been the 1st Team Manager for comments made about losing the match when we were 5-1 up, and the goalkeeper - who for some reason had to turn up for a match wearing it and I thought should have kept it on during the match seeing as it wouldn't have been a colour clash lol.

It's all good team banter.

Is it too much to ask that the BBC gets a half hour highlights package together to show on BBC1 or BBC2 on Sunday? Probably, unfortunately.

Personally I can watch it all Saturday night on Sky, but there are many who can't.
Tribute to the Bearded Wonder 8:50pm on 30 Jan 2009 My reaction when logging onto BBC Cricket this evening was "Oh no!"

I'd already mentioned to a few fellow cricket fans how I was looking forward to hearing Bill Frindall's analysis etc from the West Indies in the next month or so.

Bill, from a fellow Wiltshire man and (less of a) 'Stat Brain', thank you for all your excellent, dedicated work and RIP.

Staying level headed is so important 6:50pm on 29 Jan 2009 Very interesting Gavin to read your comments about players not responding well to criticism nowadays.

My involvement with a non-league football club (Westbury Utd of the Western League) has revealed a very similar story in the last 2/3 years.

A number of players, particularly those aged 16-20, have a very bad attitude to training and performances and criticism can lead to them walking out of a club and finding another.

I could name one player who's been with 4 Wiltshire clubs in less than 2 seasons, each time his attitude was criticised and he got the hump and left! The lad has immense talent if only he could get his head right.

Funnily, I had a conversation today with a local football manager and we spoke about just this after his recent experinces with youth footballers. I'll send him a link to this blog.
Should there be a winter break? 4:25pm on 08 Jan 2009 My experience of a late call off : travelled from Westbury (Wilts) to Ilfracombe (North Devon) for a Western League match - a journey of about 130 miles so 260ish round trip.

We got to the ground and it had just started raining at 2pm. There followed a deluge that resulted in a river forming on and running off of the pitch!

The match was called off by the referee, though he did wait until 3.30pm to see if the rain stopped.

That was a long day.
How I long for a proper Christmas 2:04pm on 16 Dec 2008 Gavin talks about mid-season breaks, I don't think they shpuld be planned as I need a Boxing Day and New Year footy fix!

However I've got the answer for people wanting a mid-season break...

... my town's non league side haven't played since Nov 25 due to pitches being waterlogged on 3 consecutive Saturdays! LOL.
Kevin Howells' team of the season 3:43pm on 29 Sep 2008 Funny how people always moan about there favourite players not being in the XI : that's all it is, Kevin Howells' XI for 2008 and he can only pick 11 out of at least 198 (18x11) players LOL.

I'd like to comment on Kevin's introduction where he says he doesn't think this has been a vintage season : surely Div 1 being decided on the final day makes it vintage - would you have rather dead rubbers in the final week which ironically had some of the best weather of the seaon!?

Also, Justin Langer's blog highlights the class, quality and standard of the cricket that has been played.
