Don't be fobbed off: Sale of Goods Act - letter download 10:46pm on 23 Aug 2009 I was looking for a suit in Moss, but the trousers were on the short side. The sales assistant said that they would be able to alter it for a fee, which I accepted. I picked them up late in the day, but when I got them home I found that one leg was shorter than the other, and neither were the length I had been told (though this could be debatable as the assisstant indicated with his finger so could say I've got the length wrong). Will I need to allow them to put the wonky tailoring right, or can I get a full refund as there is an ovious defect?
what is Digital Revolution (working title) all about? 1:19pm on 17 Jul 2009 Jay Rosen is quite right, the Web is people. They are the ones, after all, who contribute the content and consume it. If it wasn't for people, the web would be just a bundle of wires and protocols with no real purpose. However it's a bit of a no-brainer as everything created by people can be said to be the same.
The Blog Is Dead.....oh no it isn't, oh yes it is... 1:10pm on 17 Jul 2009 People are messy, chaotic and imperfect, so you can't really expect anything that is created by them to be anything less. If it wasn't then there would be something wrong.
the web is... too good for us? 09:36am on 13 Jul 2009 I'm not sure the question at the start of all this has any real sense in the big scheme of things. It isn't simply a case of opening a cage and letting all data fly free in the digital skies, it is all down to personal choice. The web is just another system in which we can express ourselves, inspire people, mislead others, and pretty much do what we generally do in social situations; except this is on a much bigger scale. The bloke down the pub coming out with made-up but amusing quotes about famous people can now put them on Wikipedia to be read by all, the gossip in the workplace can now be blogged to the world, and the glossy corporate images can be peddled across borders rather than just the high street. In the infant days of the web, most people trusted what they read to be the truth. Now in its early teenage years, I believe people have learned (or are learning fast) that what they read digitally is as subjective as any other form of information, and that they should apply their own judgement as to the validity of it. The big question isn't about freeing data, it is about whether individuals should be free to create the data.
