Was this not supposed to happen?

Had he been 'conned' into standing as he would not be going to Westminster?

Had it dawned on him that he has as much chance of doing anything for the constituency there as a snowflake on a bonfire, particularly on the things he and the Labour party were pushing during the campaign? He would still be of FAR more use as Rector of the school. There at least, he would be in a position to achieve something and in an environment where he is comfortable-something he definitely was not during the campaign.

As for the diehard, we always vote Labour we do not think brigade why on earth were you thinking that issues which you should address to the Fife Council or Holyroood were what was important? A 'protest vote' maybe, but why not send a message to Westminster? Something it can do something about.

Maybe you like dithering over a financial situation partially created by your heighbour or think that energy prices are ok or that the likelihood of umpteen highly skilled banking jobs, because of incompetence is acceptable. Maybe you think that a fuel payment for pensioners is great, but that the raids on private pensions are OK.

You have been conned, by a biased ill-informed campaign as have the media.

Does he know that he is supposed to be standing for Westminster and not Holyrood and looked mildly shicked when he was asked that?

In fact, this was the first time that I had seen him in 'action' and was amazed that such a weak candidate was selected. He may be an excellent rector, but that does not make a politician.

I suspect the result will be close. But who has the more positive message of we can do and who has a party who should have quit dithering and acted years ago on the dodgy financial dealings and did not act on fuel prices? Something they could've done and did'nt.
Strict neutrality 10:33pm on 30 Oct 2008 And while the politicians circle, the shareholders of HBOS and presumeably Lloyds await to see if they get any say in the companies they invested in and legally they must have. And the Prince of Darkness, it is reputed, is sitting on a report which ought to be in the open to aid the decisions which the shareholders should be making.

I thought the scheme when it first was mooted was hastily conceived and ill thought through and there was a whiff of a nasty odour about it. While the points mentioned above are being debated, perfectly valid requests for ALL the information to be out in the open are ignored. They also ppear to be obstructing any other offers which could be made - not sure how, but it seems that way. The shareholders are being ignored and before someone claims that they are all big 'corporations' - they are not. There are many 'small' investors who may have had building society accounts and savers who have been converted to shareholders, never mind staff who got shares who have got caught up in this sorry state.

Of course, the Scottish Parliament should be looking at the situation, but they need full information too.

The situation is becoming a stinking mess. Jobs and Integrity seem to have got lost in the quagmire.

I understand that the deal with HBOS must go to the shareholders before it can be done - according to our papers anyway. I suspect Llyods are the same.

Very much doubt, if an independent Scotland would have permitted the banking system to get into such a mess - it would've been better regulated! I hope.

Why this assault on Scottish banks in the first place from the financial sector? What on earth were the ineffective FSA doing apart from nothing?

He certainly said often enough, that there strange reluctance to address the problems and they were being very slow.
Money, money, money 4:02pm on 09 Oct 2008 Can it be added that the PPI that the sorry Aberdeen Council had signed in February for work on their schools, is with an Icelandic Bank and we know what is happening there! And there seem quite a number of LA's with investments in the north too. Perhaps Iain Gray would have been better to hold fire on this until the fall-out from Iceland (and others as yet unknown?) was clearer.
As far as HBOS is concerned, I agree Brian that at present, it is the only offer on the table and that is where the Scottish Government has to work. While doing so, of course, to make it all to clear that there is a long way to go before the deal is cleared, whatever your preferred option may be. The way things are going, there seem to be changes every hour, let alone daily.
Mind you, Westminster were incredibly slow to act. It seemed strange that things were so bad, and yet Westminster was no recalled.

Is this the guy who on the night of the Glasgow East count, made rather a fool of himself on either the BBC or STV? Cannot remember all the details, but his lack of grasp of facts was all too apparent.

Sounds as if he might be right for this job.

By the way, where has novice Douglas Alexander been put? Or is he stepping down in the spring too?
Down to earth 3:58pm on 29 Sep 2008 Reluctant Expat Within an area an integrated transport system would seem sensible and I assume that Newcastle and Carlisle are wondering where they figure in the Tory plans too. Last night, they were still in England.

I mean to say, I had not noticed that the train lines suddenly changed as you crossed the Belgian/French border or from Norway into Sweden, so why not think integrated on this island too?

'The real Gordon' 6:34pm on 23 Sep 2008 Gordon is a thinker through and through - he is not a guy who opens his mouth and pronounces. This is something which the media tend not to understand as they are all desparate for 'soundbites' or whatever. But Gordon can be very dangerous.

But for someone who talks about the United Kingdom ad infinitum, there seemed to be remarkably little on the 'United Powers', but an awful lot on the domestic front of England alone. Then for the MPs to ask the Scottish Government to match it. Are they implying that the Labour MSPs are incapable of working out a policy for themselves to suit Scotland?

Yes London controlled Labour shone out brightly. This is The Policy - apply it formula.

Have they 'forgotten' about Glenrothes? And Motherwell and Wishaw(when JM escapes to Africa)?

Or given up?
