My Bahrain Grand Prix photo diary 4:18pm on 01 May 2009 Jake - I think the feedback on your blog demonstrates that viewers have a keen interest in what goes on behind the scenes - any chance that we could have a weekly profile of different members of the team - it would be great to know about all of the different elements that go in to delivering such great coverage. Even if some of the team didn't want to be 'public', some detail on what their role entails would be great.

DVLA removing licence entitlements 9:26pm on 27 Apr 2009 Having got a new passport last week (via a one-day service, which went flawlessly), I thought I'd take the opportunity to finally get a photo-licence - knowing that my new passport photo would be used automatically for my licence. Interesting then that having tried on Friday, and failed, and being told by DVLA that changes are happening to the system over the weekend, I still can't update my licence because the system is still completely down...
Customer service - have your say 9:22pm on 27 Apr 2009 Rather than criticising customer service, I want to take the opportunity of praising it - or at least, the customer service received from one particular company. Having been pretty ill over the last eight months (numerous ops), I have to say that my health insurer - PruHealth - have delivered what I have described to many friends and colleagues as simply fantastic customer service. In a world of mediocrity, it was a pleasure dealing with this company over the phone, especially taking in to account my condition, and has helped prevent additional stress whilst being ill. They should be giving lessons to other companies as to how to handle their customers!

BBC iPlayer goes HD, adds higher quality streams, releases iPlayer Desktop out of Labs 8:23pm on 20 Apr 2009 and again - where I thought it was moving the data folder causing the download to 'stick', it now appears as thought it may be the particular programme I am trying to download - Louis Theroux. Downloaded 420mb and back again to 9.5 hours left...

BBC iPlayer goes HD, adds higher quality streams, releases iPlayer Desktop out of Labs 7:06pm on 20 Apr 2009 Great stuff - one comment about the new iPlayer Desktop though - can you prompt for the folder you want to store downloaded content in when first installing the application? I started to download something, it correctly required the new app to install, and everything went swimmingly. I then went to change the folder (to move it to a different disk, rather than my system 'C' drive) (after working out that I had to untick 'allow iPlayer desktop to manage...' before being able to browse to a new location). Again, everything going well. Except the programme that I had already downloaded 500 odd meg for refused to download any additional data (all of its files had been moved automatically to the new location). When iPlayer was telling me that it was another 9+ hours to download the rest, I killed it, deleted the content from my drive, restarted iPlayer, and it's all downloading great now. Shame about 1/2 a gig of data in the bin though.

Anyway, now to test if TVersity will stream it...
Welcome to some new initials - DRM, HDCP, DTCP and AACS! 2:33pm on 16 Apr 2009 I welcome the move, if only that it might mean in-the-home distribution beyond your set-top box. What I'm interested in, as a result of this announcement, is whether the BBC will be pressing Sky to open up its platform to facilitate this. Myself, like the bulk of BBC HD viewers (I would imagine), receive the programming by way of the Sky+HD box. This means regardless of whether the BBC is happy for a HD copy to be made or distributed within the household, Sky block you from doing it. I currently 'deliver' BBC content to other devices in my house (e.g. a variety of iPods), and obtaining missed programming, by downloading the .mov file from iPlayer. If I could get a HD version that would enable a better picture on larger screen devices that would be fantastic (my PS3's upscaling can only do so much...)
Filling for Britain at storm time 12:22pm on 06 Apr 2009 Jake, Now that you've taken a well earned deep breath, look back and feel a sense of pride for what you achieved on Sunday. This must surely be what being a live broadcaster is about - being dropped in at the deep end from a great height, with cameras cutting during the electrical storm to trying to present live discussion from a corner of a hospitality suite. Who would have thought that erstwhile children's TV presenter would mature in to someone who - in my view - did an admirable job under adverse conditions on Sunday. Whilst DC follows EJ's comments with "I disagree", you successfully managed to hold everything together. You say you hold a lot of respect for Steve Rider, I'm sure he now holds a lot of respect for you. Enjoy your Pie and Mash whilst you can, and we look forward to China.
