OK. Not strictly ballroom, but the dogs in our local club haven't got four left feet and could probably teach John Sergeant a think or two (sorry, John).
BBC HD: "Creeping" DOGs Update 4:16pm on 20 Jan 2009 DogFree @ 47 You don't have to press anything on most STB to get rid of the "Press RED" prompt. On Sky boxes you can go into the preferences and set it to disappear automatically (can't remember where, I don't have Sky anymore).

On my Freesat+ PVR the prompt just disappears on its own without having to set it in the preferences. I assume other Freesat boxes do likewise?

I can't speak for Freeview.

Oh, and while I'm at, one more vote to remove the DOG totally from all BBC channels. I feel it'll take one of the major broadcasters to do it in order to force the others to do likewise.
Listen again to BBC radio shows on the iPhone 1:15pm on 25 Sep 2008 It's already been mentioned several times in comments already, but just to add some weight to the argument I totally agree with what's been said about the restriction of streaming over WiFi. When we're out and about most of us only have access to 3G or GPRS and when we're at home we have other means to listen to the radio.

The service may not be available on the iPhone for any number of reasons (technical or otherwise) and because most of us haven't got WiFi available to us when we're on the move perhaps iPlayer on the iPhone could include some way to store a programme to listen to later on in much the same way as iPlayer on Windows desktops (or so I've been told, I use a Mac)?

Live Streaming of radio through iPlayer on the iPhone is long overdue and it would be interesting to hear the reasons why this isn't available yet.

I may use the facility from time to time at home, but because of not being able to use iPlayer when I'm out and about I will continue to use Podcasts as my primary method of catching up on missed BBC radio shows such as The News Quiz and The Now Show.

However, having said all that the BBC should be congratulated for continuing to push forward these kinds of innovations for the iPhone (and other devices). I'm sure things will develop further and I will continue to watch with interest.
BBC HDTV 12:49pm on 14 May 2008 I agree with many of the comments raised particularly the point about HD on Freeset.

Freesats unique selling point is the fact that it offers HD programming with no subscription. The number of people owning HD sets is increasing daily and will only keep growing. Surely the BBC (and the other major broadcasters) must realise that rapidly offering a decent number of HD channels on Freesat is not a "nice to have" but an absolute necessity if the platform is to succeed?

While I understand the rationale behind only scheduling true-HD programmes on BBC HD, in order to really promote the uptake of HD (and, therefore, Freesat) a full side-by-side BBC One HD and BBC Two HD with some content inevitably upscaled can't come soon enough in my opinion. By all means keep BBC HD as a 100% true-HD channel for the purists but you need to be pushing HD now, not in 2 or 3 years time.
Freesat - will it fly or flop? 12:52pm on 07 May 2008 This is excellent news and although Rory correctly states that this is "yet another way of getting hold of digital television" I'd respond by saying that this is a service that appears to solve many of the problems with the existing options. It will even appeal to people like me who have Sky, Freeview and Virgin Media as available alternatives.

As a competitor to the rather confusingly named "Freesat from Sky", the new Freesat from the BBC/ITV will (at least initially) cost more to purchase, however where it comes into its own is with High Definition. I find it amazing how many people I know who've splashed out on an HD telly but have no way of actually watching any HD content on it. Freesat doesn't have the bandwidth restrictions of Freeview and personally I see it as a way of ultimately getting subscription free HD content on to an HD telly (along with an excuse to buy one, of course).

The inclusion of iPlayer via the "interweb" into a Freesat decoder box will give this service a very real unique selling point and prevent Sky from dominating (and therefore overpricing) the market they have, until now, totally controlled.

Once a twin-tuner Freesat digital recorder becomes available I'll be dumping my Sky+ box, buying an HD telly and going to Freesat. I feel many people will do the same. Bring it on!
