Person-to-person spread of Tamiflu-resistant strain of swine flu 10:20pm on 20 Nov 2009 There is a simple answer to this problem. It's called Relenza. The problem ? it's more expensive and this government's priority has been to do the cheapest thing, not the best thing, at every stage of the flu pandemic.

We started 3 weeks later than Australia (remember, we are supposedly ahead of the game when it comes to our preparedness according to Liam Donaldson), some doctors surgers are still waiting for their first batches of vaccine and despite what the government are saying (and what you are saying here Fergus, not everyone with asthma is entitled to a jab.

My two year old son is asthmatic, has an inhaler, was born prematurely and picks up every chest infection going yet according to the doctrs we are registered with, he takes the "wrong sort of inhaler" and is therefore not entitled to a jab as he is not "at risk". This is ridiculous.

I am a school teacher and ahve fiver of my class off today with swine flu. As a result I go home and feel for my own son's safety I cannot go anywhere near him.

Where the hell is the vaccine Mr Donaldson ?
Glory hunting is not for me 10:40am on 02 May 2009 Jake, I am a Norwich Season ticket holder, but also fit the category, in some people's minds as a "glory hunter", as my first love, despite being Norfolk born and bred, is Everton.

Now my answer to the tag "glory hunter" is that there has been precious little glory in supporting Everton for the last 31 years (I am now 38) aside from one 3 year golden spell, but I do feel very proud to be from Norfolk and also follow Norwich because they are my local team. It's like supporting England really, I have to support Norwich because they represent me and my locality.

It is a shame though that your comments were not read more closely by the numpty on comment 6 (leeder33). It appears that he thinks Ipswich will be playing in the Premiership next season. I didn't know you could go up for coming 9th !
Experts concerned about potential flu pandemic 5:00pm on 26 Apr 2009 Spanish flu was also an H1 flu virus, but it was the first one to really travel world wide. other flus died of in more isolated places and with slower transportation, died off on board ships between places.

As for a vaccine, that would be no problem (the same is true of H5N1 avian flu when that eventually jumps species), the difficulty is it will take 4 months for the first doses to appear, such is the time it takes to produce vaccine whilst the number of factories in the world that produces vaccines is really no tthat high.

In the UK we could expect production of half a million to one million doses a week. Do the maths. That's a long while to wait until you get jabs.
Experts concerned about potential flu pandemic 3:49pm on 26 Apr 2009 The fact that our airports are not being screened, the fact that Thomas Cook this morning flew another Airbus full of holiday makers to Mexico, the fact that the W.H.O. seem to be so slow acting all point to major problems for us in 7 days time.

Expect panic by next weekend.
Reagan, Clinton, W, and Obama 3:03pm on 27 Oct 2008 Teh number of people who who failed to see the irony in Justin's comments about Appalchian's reading the FT is worrying.

We all like to think we have a great wit in this country (the UK) and it is people on the other side of the atlantic who don't get irony (just ask Alanis morrisette - she doesn't get it either).

CNN, Steve Jobs, and a dodgy rumour 12:02pm on 04 Oct 2008 Too many journalists fail to do what everyone think sjournalists are supposed to do, and that is to search for stories or find the real news behind a press release. So many of our main stream media, particularly the printed press, print verbatim political press releases from their favourite parties or are willing to ignore facts in an attempt to print their biased version of the news. Blogger are not worse and no better, but are at least honest in their bias, and I speak as a blogger myself.
