Ferguson revels in classic win 09:23am on 21 Sep 2009 Fantastic Derby - privelge to be there. Apart from last 15 minutes of the 1st half United were dominant throughout with ony comedy defending from Rio and Foster keeping Citeh in the game. This tired "added time" debate will only ever go away when football embraces the simple concept of a seperate timekeeper which Rugby League has been doing quietly and succesfully for years. It does not result in endless games due to added minutes as there is far less time wasting and a common understanding of when the game will end. Unfortunately it will take more intelligence and common sense than exists at the FA to implement it..
Ferguson faces huge task in Europe 09:49am on 15 Sep 2009 United were well beaten in last years final by a Barcelona team that only just squeezed past Chelsea to get there( Much to Platini's relief no doubt) And the player that was sorely missed between United's 2-leg demolition of Arsenal and the final was not Christan Ronaldo but Darren Fletcher! Which merely serves to prove it is dangerous to make predictions from one round to the next let alone at the beginning of CL campaign. The 4 English teams will likely make it to the knock-out phase, doubtless with a few scares along the way and then its game on..

Are 'broken families' responsible for 'Broken Britain'? 11:14am on 11 Sep 2009 Surely we need to make the distinction between "disfunctional" families and this Tory sterotype "broken family". There is no more disfunctional family in the UK than our own dearly beloved Royal Family who appear to be a fairly emotionally stunted lot incapable of forming long-term adult relationship and providing a stable environment for their children to flourish in. What emotional damage and distress did the post divorce media "tit-for-tat" behavour of the late Princess Of Wales and the heir to the throne do to their children? Not all single families live on sink estates and not all two parent relationships provide a happy environment for children to grow up in. Simplistic and patronising IDS response to a complex social issue which makes the prospect of a future Tory administraion running this country and even more frightening prospect than the current clowns..
Why are companies not borrowing? 09:12am on 10 Sep 2009 Surely the point is UK households were indebted to a previously unheard of level based on the blind faith that houseprices and therefore personal wealth were soaring inexorably upwards so we can all afford it cant we? If people and companies are currently being a little more prudent, delaying key purchases and reducing debt levels surely thats merely a natural and inevitable correction to an overheated economy based on speculation and risk? Have we learnt nothing since the South Sea Bubble of 1720?
Manchester City making waves 2:24pm on 24 Aug 2009 Re : Yet another repeat of the tired old comment from a blue in amongst this post somewhere about United "not being in manchester" - Stretford and Old Trafford were taken out of the City in 1972 by local govt re-organization and placed into the newly formed and wholly artifical "Trafford Borough " However that would mean we were still in Manchester when you last won the league.. (PS Wasnt Mr Shinawatra going to bring you lots of trophies as well)
Owen worth Man Utd gamble 11:42am on 03 Jul 2009 We need to replace 30-35 goals a year now Tevez and Ronaldo have departed and no one can seriously suggest Micheal Owen is the answer. If thats all we buy up front this transfer window then the bookies will be lengthening the odds on us retaining a 4th PL title significantly ! If however we invest £25-£30m in an Aguero,Villa, Huntelaar etc then he's worth a punt on a pay-as-you-play basis, who knows he could have the impact of Teddy or Ole coming off the bench. The younger strikers (Macheda,Welbeck,Manucho) are still a bit raw to depend on too much this season..
I could operate trains 4:33pm on 01 Jul 2009 I dont think anybody seriously thought NXEC could pay a £1.4Billion premium for the ECML over the lifetime of the franchise even when the economy was bouyant so no surprise they have walked away now. Maybe Virgin and SWT will be next? However before we get too vitriolic over this governments position on this mess lets not forget which political party spent £1bn of public money in the mid 90's gifting us a private sector Railway in its current form, complete with bus operators who butchered that de-regulated Industry in the 80's and were then given short term 7 year franchises to run trains. Oh and why not forget about the infrastructure body we set up for the purpose and give them their stations to manage too ? Cos they are bound to be desperately keen to invest £m's to maintain listed victorian structures for their passengers benefit! Nobody comes out of this debacle smelling very sweetly..
Hata la vista, Cristiano! 2:35pm on 11 Jun 2009 Ronnie not a patch on last year when he obviously wanted to play for us. Madrid need him more than we do, hence the £80m - their way off the top slot in their own country let alone in Europe. Who was United's big miss in the CL final? Why the much-maligned Darren Fletcher! Bye Bye Ronnie, enjoy the adoration in Spain - just hope SAF spends the windfall wisely..
Man Utd right to sell Ronaldo 1:44pm on 11 Jun 2009 Who did we most the most in the biggest game of our season? Why Darren Fletcher of course, Ronnie didnt deliver. Deal of the season - Bye Bye, it was sweet whilst it lasted..
