Has he got a Legg to stand on? 3:36pm on 13 Oct 2009 Oh how I wish Lord Hutton had had the 'common sense' shown by Sir Thomas Legg. Lord Hutton gave Blair the answer he demanded irrespective of the facts.
Lord Legg had audited these expense claims against the regulations written down and not in line with the Fee Office interpretations. The 'Rules' which MPs are claiming have been changed always insisted that any expenses are to be entirely for the purpose of performing the Parliamentary duties - Gardening and Cleaning do not fall into this category and should have been totally excluded - MPs do not need to have a second home with gardens to perform their duties. Sir Thomas has been generous.
On the question of second home allowances he cannot comment as they were given in line with regulations - totally flawed when drafted and subject to the most appalling abuse. Hence Jacqui Smith gets off scot free with probably in excess of £100,000 of unjustified expenses.
The Public will not accept future rules that allow MPs to make a profit on their second homes - renting should be the order of the day.

Any MP who can factually dispute Sir Thomas Legg's findings has a case, but if they continue to bleat about Natural Justice/"He has changed the Rules" they need to have their names publicised for a public shaming.
Labour's long night of painful firsts 12:34pm on 08 Jun 2009 In Post 40 Forever_blue757 stated that Lord Mandelson reduced Andrew Marr to a gibbering wreck.

What programme was he watching. andrew Marr retained his dignity despite having to deal with the 'Prince of Darkness' at his most evil spinning worst. Mandelson was shown up as a bully - and it is no wonder that Labour Cabinet ministers refuse to do the decent thing and get rid of Brown.

Twice forced to resign, made financially secure for life after a stint on the European gravy train - a reward from a grateful Tony Blair, and yet Mandelson still seeks to further his ambitions, through the man who he despises.

Surely the time will come - and I hope it is tonight - when people (Backbench MPs) will realise that it is not the Country that Mandelson seeks to assist, but his determination to cling to power whatever the cost is to the Country, and will tell Gordon Brown that it is time to go.

Faith in Labour has been declining ever since the 'saintly' Blair took us into Iraq on a lie, since he fixed the Kelly Inquiry. Brown has finished the job by reducing this Country to its economic knees.

Now Brown clings onto office, not for the Country, but for the sake of the Party and his own personal ambition.

An examination of the Labour marginal results from 2005 shows a UKIP vote in many many cases in excess of the Labour majority.

My shirt's hairier than yours 1:50pm on 13 May 2009 Phil Hope (or should that be hopeless) does not understand that the public are right to question his integrity. Just because the sytem allows you to claim excessively on the system, ones moral judgement should not permit you to claim. He, like Gordon Brown, does not know how to say sorry.

The electorate in Corby can show him that paying back the obscene amount claimed does not represent a change of his values, rather a crude attempt to get re-elected.
How Chris Hoy's life turned upside down 3:02pm on 31 Dec 2008 The list has been based on what Gordon Brown thinks will do best for the Labour Party, not necessarily who actually eserves the honour.
Why should Rebecca Adlington get an OBE and Lewis Hamilton get only an MBE. I am sure Ellie's MBE was for the public vote, otherwise she would have been awarded nothing. But why not parity with Rebecca - they both won 2 gold medals.

Do not get me wrong, Chris Hoy richly deserved his knighthood.
The moment Liu Xiang broke Chinese hearts 12:57pm on 18 Aug 2008 Having seen the look he gave the CCTV in the tunnel approaching the running track - it was pure venom, I think he was forced to take part against his wishes.
Even more astonishing was to see him kicking the wall in the warm up area.

I feel very sorry for him as a person and hope he can get the best medical treatment to return to his previous form.

I would hope - no I know - that no British management would behave so disgracefully.
