Benitez's brinkmanship strikes again 7:37pm on 26 Oct 2009 I am rewatching the game right now. United are really, really poor. Liverpool dominated them all over the pitch and 3-1 would have been a more reflective score (allowing for United's one real chance going in). I have never seen a player at a top team who does less work for the team than Berbatov. This would all be okay if he actually scored goals, but he's only on 3 last I looked and his assists aren't what they should be for a player who prides himself on his vision. Lucas was awesome, unbelievable energy, all over the pitch, didn't put a foot wrong, better than Mascherano.
Maradona singing in the rain 07:07am on 14 Oct 2009 The truth of the matter is that the true great players in any sport rarely make great managers. Wayne Gretzky, the greatest hockey player ever to live by all accounts, has been a shocking manager by most accounts. It's frustrating for the geniuses to try to teach the non-geniuses. Maradona as a player was inspirational and he thrived on instinct learned from having a football on his foot from the cradle. He is neither tactician nor man manager so why on Earth would Argentina appoint him? Talk about desperation! It is the equivalent of England appointing Paul Gascoigne--as much as I love him would you want him in charge of your house for the weekend let alone the national team? Omitting Cambiasso and Zanetti (one of the greatest gentlemen of the game) is truly disgraceful (unless either has retired from International football). The wealth he has at his expense and how poorly he has used it exposes Maradona as completely clueless, sadly.

Drogba inflicts pain on Liverpool 4:34pm on 05 Oct 2009 I think that the problems of both sides were exposed. Just because Chelsea won doesn't make them world-beaters. My friends who support Chelsea were not overjoyed at the performance because of the lack of width and creativity though they won. They were also embarassed by Drogba's flopping. As for Liverpool, we used to get hammered every time we went to the Bridge, trying to scrape for a draw. Even last year was a very fortunate win with a deflected goal. I think that we actually played better this year, controlled much of the game, and just lacked a touch of class. The anti-Lucas brigade is ridiculous. I watched the game again and he played very well, far better than Gerrard. We do lack a creative hub right now unfortunately, someone like Riquelme. I hope Aquilani is the real deal but a few friends who support Roma were very unconvinced with him there. As good as Johnson is I really wonder how we could go into this important year with a possible shout at the title with such a threadbare strike force. Very questionable transfer dealings this summer.
Chelsea & Liverpool under scrutiny 11:55am on 02 Oct 2009 Please all of the United fans on here stop acting like you're miles ahead of Liverpool in the table. You're 3 points ahead and we've got better goal differential. We started slowly and you were lucky against Arsenal (Arshavin denied a penalty, Rooney dived) and City (goal scored in two hundredth minute). This is why no neutrals like you despite having class players like Giggs and Scholes.
Chelsea & Liverpool under scrutiny 10:08am on 02 Oct 2009 This match does not determine Liverpool's season the way some have suggested. The key questions to be asked about their title credentials are the following:

1.When Aquliani comes into the side will he add class, quality, and help control midfield (something we used to do against even the best sides when Alonso was wearing Red) and take pressure off Gerrard/Torres in unlocking defences and scoring goals? Can he stay fit?
2.Can the defence learn to adapt to our more attacking style?
3.Is Mascherano committed to the cause?
4.Will our taller players start stepping up and dealing with balls into the box? Skrtel and Carra have been awful so far at this.
5.Will the Ryan Babel of his first season reemerge?
6.Can we get a better back-up for Torres in January if we're challenging?
7.Can Daniel Agger come in to the side and live up to his immense potential?

I predicted before that we'd win 2-3 at the Bridge. The more I think about it, we have a chance if it's close at half-time. If we let in a few soft goals off set-pieces we could get a hiding, but I'll stick with my predo nonetheless.

Torres, Drogba or Rooney - who's the best? 08:11am on 02 Oct 2009 Liverpool fan, but come on now, Rooney a better STRIKER than Torres????. Put Rooney on Liverpool and Torres on United and what do you think their goal totals would be? Torres scores goals out of nothing. IMHO Rooney should be a central midfielder. Amazing energy (and pace for such a pudgy man), great vision, great team player. But Torres is by far the better striker.
Chelsea & Liverpool under scrutiny 00:05am on 02 Oct 2009 No idea what to expect from this one but it will probably be played like a Cup tie. I think Benitez will play Lucas and Masch if the latter is fit, but if not he will put the out of form Gerrard in central midfield with Benayoun and Kuyt swapping off in the hole. Riera should definitely be played on the left and I think Babel could be the secret weapon in the second half running at their left back. Babel is an infuriating player but he seems to save his best for the big occasions and this is definitely that. Skrtel and Carragher are the same players they were last year, it's the system that's changed and exposed them. I'd like to see the 2008 Reds against the big teams and this year's version (with the fullbacks playing as wing-backs) at home and against the lesser sides. Prediction 2-3 with the Blues controlling the game but some good counter-attack goals and poor goalkeeping from Hilario.
Premier League & England Q&A 9:37pm on 24 Sep 2009 Totally off subject but watching a craking Genoa vs. Juve match. Better than most Serie A.
