No, actually it IS "Chelsea are". Refering to a team or band as IS as opposed to ARE is an Americanism. British Engligh says, "Chelsea are a decent team", or "The Beatles are a great band". American English says "Chelsea is a decent team and The Beatles is a great band". If you are going to criticise someone, make sure you are correct yourself.

As for Chelsea, the punishment is maybe harsh but it will be reduced on appeal so it won't hurt them one bit (just like with Roma and the Swiss side... oh, maybe this isn't an Anti-Premiership witch hunt after all...)

Preaching to the converted somewhat here I think - I'm about the same age as you and a lifelong Swansea City season ticket holder... you think YOU'VE had it tough?!

There's a part of me that simply can't really take another football fan's aleigence (sp) totally seriously if they turn out to be a top 4 supporter. For me they've missed one of the fundamental reasons football appeals to me so much. I can enjoy Match Of The Day as much as anyone else - possibly more so - but the idea of supporting any club other than the one I was brought up with seems to defeat the purpose.

My favourite bit is if I try and air an opinion on the Premiership to say, a Liverpool supporter and get dismissed with the old "What would a Swansea fan know about top flight football?" Always though that was a bit rich since it's ME that actually goes to real life games every week while those guys sit and watch "their" boys on Sky Sports!

Really, really bad.

It manages to suck in so many ways, and on so many levels that it is actually some kind of achievement. But an achievement like having the world's floppiest teeth (ie one the makes you wonder why you bothered).

That's bit rich you throwing that at a Swansea supporter mate, considering we were in the same division last season. I would imagine there are loads of Jacks keeping tabs on your club this season, seeing as we've been in a similar situation ourselves a few years ago (although admittably without the points deductions). From the outside it your frequent managerial changes seem reminicent of our own forays with the bottom of League 2 so maybe Lone Rangel knows what he's talking about?

And by all means, as someone who goes to the games every week, put him right if he is off the mark but don't suppose it's a lack of interest in the lower leagues. Blimey, you'll be suggesting Swansea fans are a bunch of glory supporters next!
How I long for a proper Christmas 2:04pm on 16 Dec 2008 Winter break? Absolutely not!!!

We are starting to forget that the great thing about football, and the reason it is so covered in money is that it is great entertainment, and the most fun time of the whole year to watch a match is boxing day!

As an actor I can understand where you are coming from Gav as I am often performing or simply in a different country on Christmas day - I will be this year and it's tough. But our proffessions simply wouldn't exist without people paying to watch us so we have to do the job when people WANT to watch us don't we?
Platini dismisses conspiracy theory 1:41pm on 29 Nov 2008 I don't understand why if Platini says he wants to stop clubs going into debt people automatically think he's specifically targeting English clubs? Roma have a crippling debt, as do Juventus - are Italians banging on about how their clubs are being "targeted" by the mischevious Platini? They probably are actually - and that's the whole point. This is not an English-club witch hunt, obviously.

Man Utd spend 100 times more money on wages than my club do. But they also have 300 times as much debt as my club do. If the banks call those loans in and they go bust they will never have to pay any of that money back (or at most 1-10% of it) and they can start again from scratch so how is that fair on my club? Too right I want to see something done about it; here, abroad, everywhere. And that's what Platini wants to do.

One point though. Platini says this will extend only to UEFA and FIFA tournaments. He means the Uefa cup and Champions League of course but shouldn't it therefore logically apply to national tournaments like the European Cup? I'm sure the English and Italian FA's (for example) are carrying millions more in debt than, for example, the Georgian FA. What are they going to do about that?

Obviously I'm not a professional footballer and have been in awful teams where losing 6-1 is almost respectable (!), but we all have normal lives to get back to the next day so it doesn't matter. What on earth does a manager say to a team of pros after something like that? What's training like at the beginning of the week? Do you really analyse it or just try to forget it?

Judge them by their deeds not their life.

As a person Maradona is an absolute loser ( a bit like Gazza) but as a footballer he is untouchable. When people (only English people of course) try to sum him up with a single handball they miss the point entirely.
