Fewer votes for BNP 10:22am on 08 Jun 2009 Before we get more comments on all these foreigners wandering around the UK on benefits, it might be a good time to point out that the UK remains more than 90% white. Any suggestion that we are being overrun by immigrants is hyperbole.

Young and unemployed 10:41pm on 22 Dec 2008 52: hackerjack, it's more common than you think. I have been repeatedly told by recruitment agencies that either they won't take me on their books because I don't have enough experience, or I have too high qualifications and their clients would want somebody more likely to stay with them long term. Basically, apart from making a lot of friends and having some fun, it makes me feel like studying for the past 4 years has been a complete waste of time. Also doesn't help that I did Mathematics at uni with an intention of going into Finance, only for the economy to collapse in on itself within weeks of returning home...
Young and unemployed 7:29pm on 18 Dec 2008 I too am just out of university, and have had to take a part-time minimum wage job because of the "no experience" catch-22. I'm fortunate that I can live with my parents who aren't charging rent. I feel for others in my position who aren't so lucky.

The entire employment system needs an overhaul - but I'm told this is not a recent problem. The amount of money I have wasted attending interviews only to discover that the firm has promoted internally and only advertised the position because they had to by law! It is also a flawed system if having a degree isn't evidence of time management skills, and instead employers are looking for people who have been on key skills courses and have time management qualifications (no seriously, I have been told this...).

But my main point is this: I am not surprised the people above do not have jobs. Their lack of decent English offends me, and I certainly wouldn't hire them!

In any case, I don't see this as a real crisis. The sun will go up and the sun will come down. There will be air in my lungs and my family around me. Most importantly - Eastenders will still be on telly. Even in July 2005 after the Tube bombings, the BBC interrupted the news coverage to air Eastenders.

Let's have some perspective here - a crisis isn't a crisis unless my favourite TV shows get moved. When the BBC decide that the credit crunch is of such importance that we no longer visit Albert Square - then I will accept that there is something wrong. Otherwise, this is just a big fuss over nothing... :P
Never on a Sunday? 6:20pm on 30 Sep 2008 I think that may be the difference of opinion. A lot of people don't see this as the huge crisis that it is being touted to be. You cannot equate the failure of some banks with a military attack. The sky is not falling.

Not everyone has such a cavalier attitude to religion. And considering the current climate, it's understandable to put more trust in the Almighty than in the almighty dollar.
The First US Presidential Debate - Live 06:45am on 27 Sep 2008 Justin, you seem to talk as though you expected a British debate. The two political systems are vastly different, and you'll never get the same kind of debate that you get between party leaders at PMQs. It wasn't that their debate that was flabby and insipid - US style debating in general is flabby and insipid.

I have to agree with some of the comments on this blog - the US needs a Paxman or Humphrys or they're doomed to this kind of limp nonsense forever.
Olympic overdose? 8:42pm on 08 Aug 2008 I am boycotting all coverage of the Chinese Olympics. I presume therefore, I should avoid the BBC for the next few weeks then.

I should like to think that the possibility of all out war on Europe's doorstep would be of much higher importance than something that is no more than a party.
