Encouraging signs for England 12:30pm on 22 Mar 2009 'It's funny, England win two games and all of a sudden they're the best team in the Northern Hemisphere again'

I dont think anyone is saying that England are the best team - what is being said is that, at last, someone (Martin Johnston)with power and authority has come along to shake a bunch of professionally competent players into a team worthy of wearing the England shirt. Johnston was a strict disciplinarian on the field and to all intents seems determined to continue in the same vein as the manager. If he is allowed to continue with his purpose, then I can see no reason why England should not be strong contenders for the titles next year. But unlike Davedidds (above) I would not offer any guarantees. Rugby's a funny ol' game!
Always changing 09:42am on 20 Nov 2008 I am of English descent - with a family history deeply embedded in Kent. At the age of 15 I joined the armed forces (Royal Navy) and for the next thirty five years saw the world. I rejoiced in visiting foreign lands and meeting the people. I deliberately went into their communities, accepted their hospitality, ate their foods, talked with them, marvelled their culture. But I was always grateful to be able to return to England. For it was "a greener land", it was safe, familiar - and home. Now considerably older, still travelling extensively, England no longer looks "greener", its familiarity has disappeared and I no longer feel safe.

Following the death of my wife, I met and married a "foreigner" and am preparing to emigrate to her country. With a multi-cultural family, one son lives in Latin America with his Latin wife and family, the other in the far east, with his Asian wife and family, any attachment that I ever had with England has been severed.

England no longer belongs to the English, it belongs to a multi-racial society (and I include Europeans in this) who, in my eyes, are only too keen to give away, disclaim, bury, dishonour, the heritage that it does not own.
Fast food nation 10:08am on 13 Oct 2008 The people of America are no different from the natives of other countries. They consist of the "good, the bad, and the just plain ugly". Regretfully, the "bad - and the ugly" - of the Americans seem to have more persuasion and clout than the "good"! And the "good" seem to have little ability to resist the pressures of the "bad and the ugly". They, the good, might even be called gullible. The Carpet Baggers of the 19th century springs to mind. More recently, the election and re-election of Pres. Bush is a fine example. Perhaps this most recent collapse of the financial markets might just be an asset to the "good", whilst the "bad and ugly" are struggling to re-establish their holds on the market place. But - is there any "good" american strong enough to move in before they recover? And will that "good" american have enough clout to gather all the other "goodies" along with him - or will they all scamper back into their holes to await the outcome?
Next stop London 12:00pm on 25 Aug 2008 I like the sound of support that is coming in for the British Olympic Squad. But what a lot of criticism was offered before they produced these fantastic results. What I would like to see is the media putting efforts in giving creative criticism to the UK Olympics, and not constantly belittling those who are doing the utmost to make it all happen. Support your Nation!
