If ever there was likely to be conditions that suit a Northern-European kick-and-rush team, then this would be it.

So England might have a chance after all, despite being (when we're honest with ourselves) rather mediocre.
Just need Capello to aid the press in talking-down Englands prospects.

In 1990 I felt England were handed appropriately low expectations, and really did quite well.

Flippant, maybe, but I had a serious and valid point. I'll restate it, and flesh-it-out a bit for you.

I think this article was just a piece of formulaic "shock, horror" journalism, which is not uncommon from the BBC. Drug abuse is a staple ingredient in stories attempting to synthesize public-outrage.
As others have pointed out, Agassi probably doesn't need the money, but the publishers have a book to sell.

Jonathan Overend probably had a deadline to get a story out. Whether he gets a better performance review for lots of blog-replies, I don't know.

At the time of my original comment, it seemed obvious, to me, that the majority of responders considered this to be a "non-story". That was my main point. That is still my opinion (though I haven't counted the responses).

I think a comment by poster #153 supports my view:
"It is enormously heartening to see the overwhelmingly positive response towards Agassi on this forum. I don't think I've ever seen the like, in response to a 'crisis'."

If you re-read my original (short) comment, then you will also note that I have not even offered a detailed opinion on the use of "Las Vegas marching-powder" by Andre Agassi, or about the response of the tennis authorities.

Your comments come across like the classic "Outraged of Tunbridge-Wells" who appears equally angry at others for not being as angry as themselves.

I also stand by my comment on the attractiveness of Steffi Graff.

Agreed. Although I'm not currently living in the UK, I wouldn't have watched it even if I was.

For years (it seems like decades now!) it has been like the pantomime that is Prime Minister's Question Time:
A loaded/leading or planted question from one side receives the stock reply from the first panelist. This is given loud cheers from their supporters and boos from their opposition.
This then happens 2 or 3 more times as dumbledee works through the panel.

The professional politicians never say anything unexpected because they're well briefed on the "party line". Saying something that comes directly from their own head/beliefs could be seriously damaging to their career.

When I still watched it, the most genuine and insightful comments were most likely to come from a panelist with no (previously declared) axe to grind.

The saddest thing, for me, was the standard responses of the audiences to the usual guff.

I often wondered, is it a case of the electorate getting the politicians they deserve, or vice-versa?

then perhaps all the teams will end up like British-Leyland: extinct.

I suspect that, despite the "Jerusalem" of Barcelona, extinction is the medium/long term fate for most "professional" clubs anyway.
In American-"throwball" I think there are (about) 30 "big" teams for a nation of about 300 million people.
This is happening in European football, despite what Platini & Blatter do, think, or say (and there's going to be a lot of saying).

American sports-investors have arrived thinking they can pick the winners in advance of the disappearance of the many. Some of them may be wrong. Will they be billionaire owners with more patience than Man City or Chelsea owners? I doubt it.

On the optimistic side, allowing foreign ownership of British clubs might (only might) save more British teams than could otherwise happen.
The Japanese did more for the the UK car industry than any British investors.

What will happen to teams like Ajax, Anderlecht etc ?
Celtic and Rangers have seen the writing on the wall. Will there be one "big" Scottish club, or zero?

Most English teams who know they are below the "cut" have already accepted the inevitable. Many of them are in the premier league.

If I wasn't a Leeds United supporter, I would be feeling sorry for Liverpool at the moment.

Whether this works, or not, for the same IP-address, I don't know. I've never done it, and am prepared to defend what I've written (even the mistakes :), and my "nom de plume"

But there have to be some controls to keep the boards from filling up with computer-generated spam-attacks. I think delay may be one such, but I'm not technically versed to sure about that.

Back on track, how migh this grid position affect the constructors championship (if at all)?
