Its not SKY pumping money into cricket that is the issue. Them showing more county cricket can only be a good thing, though how much money the counties receive as a result of this is debatable.

The point is that International cricket, the pinnicle of the sport, should be shown on free-to-air TV. The whole 'dedicated sports channels' argument is true - but you have to pay alot of money for them, something alot of the nation just can't afford to do.

But to emphasise my earlier rant, it would be nice to wtch it on terrestrial television! ECB take heed - your gonna lose the next generation of true cricket fans!
Is Twenty20 too much of a good thing? 4:07pm on 17 Jul 2008 I think all this twenty20 cricket is taking away from the very thing that made it interesting to begin with - the fact it was a welcome change. But it is certainly not as good as the longer formats of the game and it is certainly not a test of cricketing skill for the players in the same way tests and 50 over games are.

Can't help thinking that the games governing bodies are aiming too much at gaining new fans that find 'REAL' cricket too dull because they don't understand the finer points of the game, rather than sticking to the games true fans.

Anyway, whos going to watch all this cricket as I dare say most of it will be shown on sky! I'd love to see the ECB concentrating their efforts where they really need to be - getting Cricket back on terrestrial free-to-view TV. How do they ever expect to get new fans of the game really interested if it is not freely available to watch anyway!

But great to have Freddie back - can't wait to see him in action...

And can't wait to see Freddie back in action - really missed him with the ball - who cares if he doesn't perform with the bat - colly wasn't so it can't get any worse! (Touch-wood!)
South Africa keep England at bay 12:18pm on 15 Jul 2008 I agree Aggers - admirable resiliance from SA - but the Pitch really was poor yet again - Lords seems to be constantly providing us with bad ones at the moment! Maybe its time we got one of those 'magic' groundsmen in to sort it out because the people responsible for the Lords wicket certainly don't seem to be getting it right at present.
Alec Stewart's England ratings 12:12pm on 15 Jul 2008 get thimpression hat some people have overlooked one key point in the wicket keeper discussion. Whilst I agree that it is controversial alec haing a vested intrest in Prior - his form in county championship this season has been nothing short of superb... so Alec talking him up on the radio is fine - as the stats show he is the best alternative at the moment.

Though I still personally feel that questions remain over his batting quality against a truely class bowling attack.
