Can I make a plea that if we want to differentiate between our own words and someone elses that we use italics to do so rather than bold? And reserve bold for emphasising a particular word or short phrase that we want to draw attention to?

To me, too much bold is like using Caps all the time and is akin to shouting.

I think the scariest thing about this "crisis" are some of the comments on HYS. My favorites so far are:

"I'm OK. I'm a vegetarian"
"Kill all pigs"

Actually O negative isn't that common and what's more it is very sought after (being a "universal donor").

I have a Gold Donor card to prove it!!

(Sadly it doesn't get me to the front of the queue).
Medical dilemma of suicide law 8:30pm on 08 Dec 2008 This is certainly a topic that we need, as a society, to debate.

My father has recently been taken into care as he can't look after himself. Physically he is fine but his memory is failing badly and he is aware of it failing. He finds this very depressing and distressing - you only need to see his expression as he desperately tries to remember his grandchildren's
names to realise that.

I think that this is one of the most cruel aspects of life that we can live long enough to witness our own mental and physical deterioration with the associated diminishing of self-respect and self-worth. In these situations is it so wrong to say "I've had a good life, now it's time for me to go at a time and place of my choosing"?

Medical advances have undoubtably prolonged our lives and made us healthier. But we need to ask ourselves:

Is it right that doctors can prolong our lives but not prolong our quality of life?
Is it in the patients best interest to be kept alive while their self respect diminishes? One could argue that to diminish someones self respect is a form of abuse.

I also think that we need to look at cases such as the removal of life support when someone is in a persistant vegetative (sp?) state. Rather than using some form of
medication to end someones life, we chose instead to remove support - effectively starving someone to death. How can that be right?

It is a very difficult area and we need to ensure that it is not abused by (say) relatives putting pressure on the person involved. I also don't think it should be up to the Doctor's to decide since they are motivated in the best way to keep their patient alive.

I would suggest that some form of legal request is made, to a Fiscal or Coroner, who would then investiagate to ensure that it the person's free choice and that other possible courses of action have been tried (eg treatment for depression). Also we should allow for this in living wills so that people like Margo can make this decision before they get to the point where they can't

As someone who "bodyshops" out to companies, I can tell you that normally the cost of the time far outweighs any expenses incurred.

If, by booking 1st class, Ms Moffat can make better use of her time while travelling then, from an overall view, that might offer better value to the taxpayer than booking cheap tickets and not being able to use the time effectively.

I'm not trying to defend Ms Moffat, just saying that it's not as simple as the cheapest ticket.

He said: "We're saying let us take it over and we will explore all the alternatives that will arise.

So what they are effectively saying is "Gizza Go".

What sane board of Directors are even going to contemplate such an idea? Especially since one of the first things Burt and Mathewson are likely to do is try and replace the board with their cronies.

Lydia-Reid (#216) seems to represent a large number of SNP supporters on this blog by seeming to equate "anti-SNP" (and "pro-union" for that matter) with "pro-Labour".

I believe WeCanCount (#215) and various posts of Brownedov have it right when they put down the Labour victory to tactical voting.

The SNP can attack Labour all they like, I doubt if it will make much more difference because it is expected of them and Labour are ready for them.

They need to address the fact that many people (and I am one of them - though not pro-labour) do not like the "Smug 'n' Posturing" party. They are not convinced about the arguements for Independence and do not trust Salmond and co (any more than they trust any other politician).

The SNP say they are going to hold a referendum in 2010 so they can show the electorate that they can govern effectively. If they want to win, that is what they need to concentrate on.

They need to get LIT through and show it working and they need to get the "Scottish Futures" stuff up and running and show that they can run things effectively.
