The ramifications of the Singapore race fixing verdict 4:37pm on 21 Sep 2009 A convenient verdict that serves the interests of Formula 1 but is a complete traversty of any version of justice. How Renault can get away with this without any fines, suspensions or reduction in points beggers belief, but in the F1 context is entire believable. This sport is becoming more like professional wrestling, a show rather than a sport.
Man Utd right to sell Ronaldo 2:53pm on 11 Jun 2009 Spoilt and petulant, definitely, but without a doubt he was an exceptionally talented player. The money not withstanding (and 80M is awefully hard to ignore), United will miss his flair and charisma on the field. Team players are the foundation but every team needs a superstar to ignite the crowds and the players and Ronaldo did just that. By being on the field he raised the level of everyone else on the field and i think that United will be poorer for that.

Ruthless, aggressive, driven, arrogant, win at all costs are just not part of the English vocabulary (pun intended).

The English team focuses on team players, do not rock the boat, do your best, better to be mediocre and nice than brilliant and arrogant

The demise of English cricket will continue. Look to the Windies to whip them and then the Ausies to humilate them.
Pietersen's gamble too far 9:13pm on 07 Jan 2009 Many people here have criticized KP for an outsize ego. Frankly an ego is an asset in a captain. How else do you convince yourself and your team that you're the best person to be captain and that you have a competitive team.

For the English readers, the purpose of sport (these days anyway) is to WIN, not just to do your best. KP has the attitude, ego and mentality of a WINNER, a very foreign concept to the English and one the ECB obviously could not deal with
Pietersen's gamble too far 7:51pm on 07 Jan 2009 So typically English. You finally get a captain (albeit a south african) who leads from the front and actually speaks his mind, and the ECB decides to slap him down and dismiss him from the post.

It seems like England prefers the good old boy, team player captain who agrees with everyone even if he is a massive failure. (e.g. Michael Vaughn)

Much as I dislike Ponting, I full recognize that as the Aussie captain for all these years, he has led from the front, spoken his mind and achieved great results. Obviously not something that England wants.
The Federer circus rolls into town - but not the village 11:17pm on 07 Aug 2008 I guess the important question for the Olympics is: Are you part of a national team or are you there to win gold and glory for yourself.

Imagine, an English football. volleyball, whatever team, with 1 or 2 ultra wealthy players deciding to stay in a 5 star hotel rather that with their team mates in the Olympic village? Not sure that would go over well with the team

I think the same point applies to the national team.

I think it great that Raffa is opting to stay in the Villlage with and surrounded by his fellow Olympians and really being part of the team
