Benitez faces biggest test 12:49pm on 21 Oct 2009 Liverpool fans must accept that some days they are mediocre and other days poor. Hanson, Lawrenson and others in the media seem to think Liverpool have a divine right to be in the top 2 teams in the premiership when we all know (including the fans) that deep down that your quite far behind Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea. Infact Villa, Spurs, Everton and Man City have indepth quality. Just because Torres, Gerrard amd Johnson are injured, why is the team in turmoil ?

I remember Arsenal were without Fabregas, Adebayour, Eduardo, Walcott for long periods of the season..list goes on and noone batted an eyelid.

In 5 years Benitez has assembled Torres, Gerrard and um.... Johnson.

I think in his peak fans said he was the next T.Henry. He's quick, athletic and made many defenders embarresed. Last season didn't help him with injuries. This coupled with the Milan courting him may have made him lose his concentration. Every striker wants to score goals even if he doesn't like his team. Coupled with asking for more money and then not quite delivering turned the fans against him.
The more the fans turn on you, the more you as a player will suffer IMO. If fans had supported him (for having an off season) then maybe he might have had the confidence to score more ?? who knows ???

I think his physical presence and speed will be missed up front.RVP, Eddie, Vela, Theo and AA are not physical or tall enough for the games that require aerial and physical penetration.

One good thing that I do hope that comes out of this is that Theo can play more and more up front. Nasri on the right, Theo just in front is perfect for him (when he scored his hatrick for England).

Defo need a like for like replacement for Adebayor!!
Man Utd right to sell Ronaldo 12:59pm on 12 Jun 2009 As an Arsenal fan, glad to see him go. But he will be missed. The good thing about the Premier league is that its always controversial. Its great to discuss goals, dives, moaning, antics etc down the pub with your mates and Ronaldo was involved in many verbals in the pub for good or bad reasons. So in that sense, he will be missed.

The problem now is for united, who is going to be their talisman. I think Rooney may step up to the mark and I can't see united bringing in big name players as everyone knows they've got at least £80m to spend so will inflate the price for a player. Saw the comment the other day the Bayern wanted 60M for Ribery...whats going on ???
Bitter recriminations at the Bridge 4:55pm on 07 May 2009 Sorry Phil, the poor Arsenal blog yesterday and now this one.I think we can all tell you don't like the passing game.

All this blog is about is the harsh treatment that Chelsea appear to have got and about how they deserved to be in the final blah blah blah...

Barcelona are an amazing team to watch. I would pay to watch them every day. But this is a Champions League Semi and they did all they had to do and score a goal. You can't blame them for not deserving to go through can you?
At the end of the day the best team in Spain against Man U the best team in the Premiership. The perfect final in my opinion.
If I was a Chelsea fan I would be seriously embarrased by Drogba et al's antics after the game. just shows why Chelsea are the most hated team these days. If the players are seen as thugs on the pitch what chance do the fans have ?

A bit dissapointed in this blog. I agree that on the night it was a convincing result for Man Utd.
I know Man U won, but what if, just what if Arsenal pulled it off. Would this blog be so one sided to pull every negative factor of the game? I think not.
The differences were clear ... Arsenal had a makeshift back four against a very good Man U side. Clichy and Gallas were sorely missed. If it wasn't for (and not blaming) Gibbs' first major mistake of his career, this changed the perplexion of the game totally. After this the game was only heading one way and the soft foul on Ronaldo just killed it. Credit to him for scoring a goal like that.
21 Games unbeaten with the squad Arsenal had this season isn't bad, but its been the lack of goals and creativity that has also hampered Arsenal's quest for silverware. Arsenal badly missed the likes of Rosicky and Arshavin and some kind of goal threat such as Eduardo.

I'm just gutted that the game wasn't as close as most had hoped.

Credit to Man u. They had a job to do and did it with conviction.
Di Stefano the greatest 4:51pm on 10 Feb 2009 I guess what you have done Tim is given people like myself an opportunity to understand a little about history. We always here about Pele and Maradona and Cruyff's but pardon my ignorance I haven't really heard of di Stafano. I wish I did hear about him before.

What questions should be asked to get an argument going is what is regarded as great in the terms of football ?

Is it skill, speed, vision, strength, popularity, how hard you can ping a deadball ? or is a combination of all of these and that something extra that no-one else has.
Cruyff's turn, Maradona's mazy run's, Pele goal scoring prowess, Bergkamp's touch, Beckhams freekicks....

And if he really looks after us, he gets a game - If we are winning 10-0. Everyone happy. The club, the players and the sponsers. I'm sure it works the same here. AIG probably game employee style discounts to the man utd team.

Just like the old days when Liverpool players could get free paint and Arsenal players got nice JVC TV's.

I hope JM goes to ManUtd. They are made for each other. JM and United share some things in common.

United are a brilliant side to watch, I'd be worried if JM came in as he would bring that brand of footie that he brought to Chelsea. Boring, Defensive and arrogant.

At least the WAG's would like him though.

As danwilko51 said i must have a chip on my shoulder. My issue is not a personal one, but one of pity to the current team to be honest.

'Young players' like Monty, Cook and Bell are great examples of raw talent who have had thier had thier riegns pulled on them. Why have they turned (been nurtured) into average players with no confidence ? They should be at the top of the tree !

Strauss at most is an average player who has done very well to come back to regain some sort of credibility as a player.

As a captain though, he could never get into any of the top 4/5 test nations. You need to deliver the goods before your bonus. In everyday life, if you perform well, you are rewarded. Why should cricket be any different ?

Strauss was always going to be captain. No one at the ECB wanted KP to rule to the roost as he goes against everything the ECB stands for. KP was probably the best captain England will never have.

Well done to England. They have again been made a laughing stock. Don't know if we should cry or laugh...

Strauss can't even get into the One day team and has only just got back into the Test match arena. Just because he has a good sentance, we'll make him captain. Brilliant. Nothing to do with the fact that there is noone else to take the mantle because of the way grass roots cricket is in England.

If you turn up in your dad's Jag or Range Rover, you'll always get into the team....
